Is Suicide the Unforgivable Sin?

John 3:18 “He who believes in [Jesus] is not condemned [they have been forgiven and given the righteousness of Christ]; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (bracketed information added)

While suicide is a sin, It is NOT the unforgivable sin. (There is only one unforgivable sin and it is rejecting Jesus. Read: What is the unpardonable (unforgivable) sin? What if I commit it?) Suicide is the taking of human life. It is a self-inflicted murder. However, just like any sin, it also has been paid for by Jesus. Jesus died to pay for ALL sins. And for those who belong to Him, all their sins are forgiven.

Therefore, if you are missing a friend, relative, or loved one who had been redeemed and regenerated by Jesus but committed suicide, their sin did not condemn them.

Every one of the believer’s sins were paid for by Jesus on the cross. When Jesus saved the person, the person received God’s forgiveness for every sin (past, present, and future), including the final sin of suicide. Jesus has promised that He has prepared a place for those who belong to Him and that He will come to receive them unto Himself (John 14:1-4). This was not a conditional promise. Jesus promised that no one can take one of His own out of His hand (John 10:28). That means that no sin a redeemed person commits will cause them to lose their eternal salvation. No one who belongs to Jesus will ever perish.

For a person who does not belong to Jesus and commits suicide, they face the consequences of dying in unforgiven sin. God will judge them accordingly. While God can forgive all sins, He cannot overlook any sin. All sin must be paid for. And if someone dies in their sin, they are already condemned.

“And he *said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy.” “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying. “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book. He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.”

The issue is suicide proves someone didn’t trust Jesus! They took matters into their own hands rather than love, worship and serve the Blessed Son of God who suffered for them and in place of them. They clearly did NOT trust Christ to save them when it came down to the test of overcoming, but took their own life instead — that’s actually a MUSLIM idea (that a person gets rewarded for killing themself)! The Bible is filled with this clear teaching beginning to end. Christians can’t take their own lives and really be Christians. Taking any life is murder — the first murderer was the devil, a liar and murderer from the beginning (John 8).

“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:44‬ ‭NASB‬‬
The first human murderer was Cain, “who was of the evil one” ( 1 John 3:11-12).

“Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother. For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous. Do not be surprised, brethren, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.”

You keep forgetting some people are mentally ill. A young man I know, who was 16 at the time, had gone to church on Sunday morning and left the church to go home and commit suicide. He loved God and he wanted to be with God. It was not that he did not trust God, He wanted to be with God because God is love. He said the preacher today said Heaven is a wonderful place. So he wanted to go to heaven and live with God.

I am still growing and still learning and so are you. I am going to disagree with you because I know you are wrong and I am right. God is not going to send a 16-year old child who loved God and wanted to be with God to hell.

Nowhere in the Word of God says if you are saved and you commit suicide you are going to hell. That is an old wise tale that is not wise. So from this point on, the conversation is over.

Let’s agree to disagree. I won’t make exceptions to The Word of God that The Word of God doesn't make itself. It’s too risky — my soul and the souls of others are at stake! I am unwilling to let people think they can commit suicide and be a Christian. That person you mentioned was deceived and probably listened to teaching that let him think he could commit suicide as his “Modern Personal Choice” —i.e. — he can be his own god, knowing right from wrong — the original sin the devil’s first lie he originally used worked again! The Bible doesn't even use the word “mental illness” — do we think Jesus, The Light of The World, was jn the dark?

If, as the Bible says, there are no unrepentant murderers permitted in heaven, their blood and soul would be required of me if I taught falsehood against The Ten Commandments and Scripture Genesis to Revelation and I would be guilty of false teaching and condoning someone to die in their sin, rather than repent of it! I just won’t take that chance...

“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:17‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.”

According to St.Matthew 12:30-32 blasphemy is the unforgivable sin.If you reject the Holyspirit there is no forgiveness of sin.Sucide is considered by many if not most people as an unforgivable sin.Someone poi Ted out that a man entered into a serious state of depression and ended up taking an overdose of tablets with the intention of taking his life.Hewas rushed to the hospital for treatment. While there he repented of his sin for having tried to take his own life.He succumbed to death some time after. This in ident serves to prove that suicide is not an unforgivable sin. However if he had died without repenting then there would have been no forgiveness. I believe it depends on the circumstance .

“And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them, ‘If I bring a sword upon a land, and the people of the land take one man from among them and make him their watchman, and he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows on the trumpet and warns the people, then he who hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, and a sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning; his blood will be on himself. But had he taken warning, he would have delivered his life. But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman’s hand.’ “Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them warning from Me. When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require from your hand. But if you on your part warn a wicked man to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your life. “Now as for you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus you have spoken, saying, “Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we are rotting away in them; how then can we survive?” ’ Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares the Lord GOD, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’ And you, son of man, say to your fellow citizens, ‘The righteousness of a righteous man will not deliver him in the day of his transgression, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he will not stumble because of it in the day when he turns from his wickedness; whereas a righteous man will not be able to live by his righteousness on the day when he commits sin.’ When I say to the righteous he will surely live, and he so trusts in his righteousness that he commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but in that same iniquity of his which he has committed he will die. But when I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ and he turns from his sin and practices justice and righteousness, if a wicked man restores a pledge, pays back what he has taken by robbery, walks by the statutes which ensure life without committing iniquity, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has practiced justice and righteousness; he shall surely live. “Yet your fellow citizens say, ‘The way of the Lord is not right,’ when it is their own way that is not right. When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, then he shall die in it. But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and practices justice and righteousness, he will live by them. Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not right.’ O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways.””

Before we take our own life, pray, ask Jesus is this is correct. If I kill my self throwing my body to be drawn in the lake, would I see Jesus face to face? What would He say to me when He sees me in heaven and say. I did not call you in yet. Why have you done this to yourself? Did you read My word. Thou shall not kill? What your response would be to Jesus then?
