35 years ago I rejected a woman ...

How would you respond to a person who has already married a divorced person? Surely once the mistake has been made there can be forgiveness for it?

Or how about a wife being abused by her husband? Surely a wife being abused should be able to divorce her husband?

If a husband is abusive separation is right but they cannot divorce unless fornication has taken place. It is right then to assume that anyone who abuses his spouse can never remain faithful so divorce and marrying again is inevitable.

If you are already married to a divorced person I believe you should remain married while seeking forgiveness from the Lord. This is just my opinion. I know the Bible says to not be unequally yoked but if you are unequally yoked you should stay married to the unbelieving spouse but if they want to leave let them leave.
