Quick question on praying in tongues.

So, when I'm praying and I'm surrounded with people who are praying in tongues.... sometimes I get the urge to join them, sort of like when you hear a great song and you feel the urge to sing along bubbling in your throat, but end up not getting any words out. Could this be a sign that I'm close to praying in tongues myself in these moments?

yeah well I've heard people utter nonsense and call it praying in tongues. dedadad adadjaababbdalodloa mda I mean come on!
yeah those instances that your talking about I'm not sure if they negate my answer or not. I mean I've felt like the gift of tongues was upon me at times at work while talking about God and Jesus, but never broke out in any weird language I was just high on Jesus at those moments. Anyways yeah no worries I don't judge since you could be right as well.

While faking tongues is possible (definitely not above human nature!), I would be very careful of calling what someone presents as tongues utter nonsense. 1 Corinthians 14:2 clearly states that unknown tongues won’t sound like language to any human, but spiritually they’re speaking mysteries to God.

I’ve heard common ‘earthly’ languages that didn’t sound like language to my ears because the syllables were so different from English. There are also unique languages such as click languages or the Turkish bird language. To us, it would sound like random sounds or whistles, but they understand it just like any other language. Pretty fascinating.

I’m glad to see you’re not just taking my word for it though! People can be wrong, and there are deceivers out there. I’ve made myself dizzy going back and forth on doctrinal things until God revealed them to me. Jesus should always be our first source.

That’s awesome! The anointing you felt talking about Jesus could’ve been a gift of tongues. It might even have been gift of teaching or prophecy, which are two of the highest gifts! (1 Corinthians 12:28)

Those chapters in Corinthians also stress how important diversity of gifts are. Just like in worship, where one person might be dancing, one might be playing an instrument, one quietly lifting their hands, and another person running around and shouting for joy: it’s all legit if it’s in spirit and truth.

Thanks for not judging 🙂 I don’t mean to sound like I’m ranting at you; sometimes a lot comes out, haha. 😅 I’m actually really impressed that you’re high on Jesus at work! Talking about God in public is something I’m struggling with...Your comment inspired me to pray for more confidence to share Him and discernment between true tongues and fake/demonic tongues.
