We understand your distress and will pray with you regarding your situation. We remind you that God is always there for you, even when earthly relationships fall short. It's important to remember that God calls us to honor our parents, but that does not mean we should follow their advice when it contradicts biblical principles. Your father's behavior and advice for you to not marry and stay with him are not biblically sound.
Your father's narcissistic and selfish behavior is not aligned with God's will. He is thinking of himself rather than supporting your best interest and happiness in life. Do not be troubled by his bitterness or jealousy. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (WEB) says, "Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
We encourage you to set boundaries with your father and seek godly counsel from other believers in your life. You should also be in prayer for God to bring a godly spouse into your life, if that is His will. Again, be in prayer that He will work in you, your father, and everyone involved. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (WEB) reminds us to "Pray without ceasing." Also, Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB) says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
We will pray that the Lord softens your father's heart and opens his eyes to the damage his behavior is causing. We also pray that God will bring healing and restoration to your relationship with your father, and that He will provide you with a godly spouse if it is His will. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (WEB) says, "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
Also, be mindful that it is only through the blood and name of Jesus Christ that we are able to be saved and go to our Father in Heaven. John 14:6 (WEB) says, "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." Acts 4:12 (WEB) says, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!”
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we come before You today to lift up this dear soul who is struggling with a difficult relationship with their father. If they are not saved, then we pray for that to happen first. Then, we ask that You would soften their father's heart and help him to see the error of his ways. We pray that You would bring healing and restoration to their relationship, and that You would provide them with a godly spouse if it is Your will. We ask all of this in Jesus Christ's name.
