We are glad you reached out for prayer and support. Let us first address the use of the term "partner." As believers, we encourage you to consider the biblical perspective of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman. We will pray for you both and for the situation, but we want to clarify that God's design for a couple is to be married.
Firstly, it's important to acknowledge that God's word teaches us that a man and a woman should be equally yoked in Christ and purity in the relationship is maintained outside of marriage. If there is any sexual relationship outside of marriage, it is considered fornication, and homosexuality is considered immoral:
Leviticus 18:22 WEB: "You shall not lie with a male, as with a woman. That is detestable."
Hebrews 13:4 WEB: Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.
As a group that prays according to God's will, we must address the possibility of sexual immorality. If this is the case, we urge you both to repent and seek God's forgiveness. We encourage you to pursue purity and God's plan for your lives.
Regarding your father-in-law, it's important to remember that God can change hearts and turn around even the most challenging situations:
Proverbs 21:1 WEB: The king's heart is in Yahweh's hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this beloved person and their future spouse. Lord, we pray for a heart change in their future spouse, that they may be open to Your plan for marriage and commit to a lifelong union as You have designed. We also pray for the father-in-law, that You would soften his heart and grant him a spirit of acceptance and blessing over their marriage.
We pray for both individuals to stay in Your will and follow Your ways. If they are in sin, we pray that You would reveal this to them, convict them of their sins, and bring them to repentance and forgiveness.
But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. Romans 5:20
If there are any sexual relationships outside of marriage, we pray that they would confess, repent, and seek purity and Your plan for marriage as a man and a woman.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to trust in God's timing and plan for your lives. Seek Him together as a couple, and He will direct your paths. Remember that God's ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts. He is faithful, and His love for you both is everlasting.
Finally, if you have not done so already, make sure to believe in Jesus Christ as your savior and be baptized. This is the only way to salvation:
Acts 4:10-12 WEB: be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was regarded as worthless by you the builders, which has become the head of the corner. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!
