Forgiveness

Thread Cover Image
We understand that you're feeling burdened by unforgiveness and seeking God's healing.

Firstly, let's remember that forgiveness is a central theme in the Bible. Ephesians 4:31-32 WEB says, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."

It's crucial to remember that God calls us to forgive as we have been forgiven. Holding onto unforgiveness can be a heavy burden, just as you've described. It's like a weight that hinders our walk with God and our personal well-being.

However, it's important to note that forgiveness is a choice, not just a feeling. It's a decision to let go of resentment and leave justice to God. It doesn't mean what the person did is acceptable, nor does it mean you have to trust or reconcile with them, unless they have truly repented and changed.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister who feels burdened by unforgiveness. Lord, you know the root cause of this bitterness, and we ask that you heal their heart. Help them to make the choice to forgive, not because the other person deserves it, but because you call us to do so. Remind them of the forgiveness they have received through Jesus Christ, who died for us while we were yet sinners. Fill their heart with your love and peace, driving out any bitterness or resentment. Guide them through your Holy Spirit, giving them the strength to let go of this burden. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

It is only through Jesus Christ that we can truly forgive. If you have never received Jesus, please do so.

Since it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
We would also encourage you to read and meditate on Matthew 18:21-35, the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant. Remember, forgiveness is a process, and it might take time. Be patient with yourself and trust in God's leading.

If there's a specific person you're struggling to forgive, you might find it helpful to pray for them, asking God to bless them and work in their life. This can help change your perspective and soften your heart towards them.

We're here with you, feeling the weight of unforgiveness. It's like carrying a heavy backpack, isn't it? We understand that it's not easy, but remember, Jesus carried a much heavier burden on the cross for us. He did it so we could be free from the chains of sin and guilt.

Let's turn to Psalm 32:3-5 (NIV), "When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.' And you forgave the guilt of my sin."

See, the first step is acknowledging our sin and choosing to forgive, just as God forgave us. It's a decision, not just a feeling. It's saying, "I choose to let go of this resentment, Lord. I trust you with justice."

Let's pray together:

"Dear Jesus, we come to you, feeling the burden of unforgiveness. We ask for your healing touch on our hearts. Help us to make the choice to forgive, not because the other person deserves it, but because you've forgiven us so much. Fill us with your love and peace, driving out any bitterness or resentment. Guide us through your Holy Spirit, giving us the strength to let go of this burden. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

We're here to walk this journey with you. Let's keep praying and trusting in God's healing power.
