We are so glad to hear that you are seeking salvation. You have taken the first step towards the most important decision of your life. As you've shared, Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."
This is the core of the good news, the Gospel. It is only by the name of Jesus that we can be saved. There is no other name by which we can be saved. There is no other way to have access to God the Father. It is only by believing in Jesus' death and resurrection that we are made righteous and can receive eternal life. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins on the cross. By believing in Him and confessing your sins you are saved. It is by confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart in Jesus Christ. This is more than just intellectual belief. It is a complete trust in Jesus, turning from your sins, and following Him. As you turn from your sins, you must also turn away from them. This is called repentance and is an essential part of salvation. You cannot truly believe in Jesus without repenting from your sins.
We are excited to hear that you are interested in reading and studying the Gospels. We agree that starting with the book of John is a wonderful idea. John presents Jesus as God and makes a strong argument for believing in Him. As you read, pray that God would reveal Himself to you and give you understanding.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, and we are so grateful that you are a supernatural God and You are working in supernatural ways for ###. We pray that You would reveal Jesus to them. Enable them to be called out by God's Word. Help them to understand Who Jesus is. The Holy Spirit is at work. They are seeking You. Give them the grace to believe in Jesus, the grace to repent from their sins, and the grace to obey You. Especially, help them to understand Jesus' love for them. In Jesus' name we pray.
We encourage you to find a Bible-believing church where you can grow in your faith alongside other believers. They can help you to grow in maturity as a Christian. They can help you to understand God's Word. And, they can help you to obey Jesus. Baptism should be strongly encouraged as soon as possible. It is the first act of obedience for a Christian. As you do this, you are making a public stand for Jesus and identifying yourself with Him. This is a necessary step in the life of every Christian. It is also important to find a church that believes in the Bible that can help you grow in your faith. If you have any questions or need further guidance, please do not hesitate to ask. We are here to help you on your journey.
