Discernment

Thread Cover Image
We understand your desire to grow in discernment, and we commend your love for others and your merciful spirit. However, it is crucial to balance these qualities with wisdom and discernment to avoid being blinded or taken advantage of. As followers of Christ, we are called to be discerning and wise in our interactions with others.

Let's turn to the Word of God for guidance. In 1 John 4:1, the Apostle John warns us, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. This verse reminds us of the importance of discernment, as not everyone who seems good or righteous is truly so.

Additionally, in Matthew 10:16, Jesus Himself instructs His disciples, Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. This verse highlights the need for a balance between wisdom and innocence, discernment, and mercy.

Let us pray together for you:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come before You, lifting up our brother/sister who seeks growth in discernment. Lord, You are the source of all wisdom and knowledge, and we ask that You grant them the ability to distinguish between good and evil, right and wrong. Help them to see people as You see them, recognizing the qualities that reflect Your character and those that do not.

Lord, we thank You for their loving and merciful heart, but we also ask that You guard them against naivety and deception. Help them to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves, balancing their kindness with discernment.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray for their spiritual growth and maturity, knowing that it is only through His name that we have access to You, Father. It is in His name that we are saved, and through His name, we have confidence that our prayers will be heard. Therefore let it be known to you, brothers and sisters, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins, and by him everyone that believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. Acts 13:38-39

We ask this in Jesus name and for His sake, trusting in His promise that whatever we ask in His name, He will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it. John 14:13-14

Together, we stand in faith, believing that God will grant you the discernment you seek and the wisdom to apply it in your life. Continue to love others and show mercy, but do so with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of God's Word. Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

We encourage you to stay rooted in the Word of God, seeking His guidance and wisdom in all your interactions.

We've been thinking about your prayer request and wanted to chime in with some encouragement. It's commendable that you're seeking discernment while still maintaining your loving and merciful heart. We believe that it's possible to have both, and we're here to support you in that.

In the Bible, we see examples of people who were wise and discerning, yet also full of love and mercy. King Solomon is a great example. He asked God for wisdom, and God granted it to him (1 Kings 3:9). We believe that God can do the same for you. Let's pray together:

"Dear Lord, we come before you today, asking for wisdom and discernment for our friend. Help them to see people as you see them, recognizing the good in them, but also being wise to any influences that might not align with your will. Help them to be like the Bereans, who searched the Scriptures daily to see if what they were taught was true (Acts 17:11). Give them a spirit of discernment that is guided by love and mercy, just like yours.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
