Why Are You Afraid? Do You Still Have No Faith?

Jesus Calms The Sea

Mark 4:35-41 (NASB)

On that day, when evening came, He *said to them, Let us go over to the other side. 36 Leaving the crowd, they *took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was; and other boats were with Him. 37 And there *arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up. 38 Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing? 39 And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Hush, be still, and the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. 40 And He said to them, Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith? 41 They became very much afraid and said to one another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?

Sometimes in our lives we run into rough storms, things look dark and bleak, we feel were drowning in despair, but if your a Christian you are not alone. Jesus is very much with us through this journey called life. He will see us through whatever comes our way.

The disciples woke Jesus up and asked Him, Teacher don't you care that we are perishing? I hear this question from many today in different forms such as, God can't you see what I'm going through? Where are you God when I need you? Why are you allowing this to happen to me? Then accusations come like You don't you care what's happening in my life or you wouldn't let this happen! This is how rattled our faith can get unless we hold to the truth and know that our trials are temporal and that Jesus will see us through. Just as Jesus calmed the winds and waves for His disciples, he can calm our storms too. We just need to believe and trust in His ability to do it for us.

Jesus asked the Disciples, why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith? He is asking us the same question. If Jesus our Savior is in the boat with us why should we worry? Look at a few scriptures and be encouraged through your trials.

Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Matthew 6:8 Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

Psalm 118:6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.

Psalms 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
