Hofgelyn, we are thankful for your heart's cry and your willingness to bring this struggle to God. We acknowledge that you're dealing with an obsession that is not pleasing to God. The Bible tells us, "Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things." (Philippians 4:8 WEB)
We must rebuke the temptation and sin in your life, as God calls us to be holy and pure in all our ways. "Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but whoever commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." (1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB) While your specific struggle may not be sexual in nature, the principle of fleeing from impure thoughts and actions applies.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up Hofgelyn. We thank You for their heart's desire to turn away from this obsession. Lord, we ask that You fill their mind with pure and lovely thoughts, and help them to flee from this temptation. Give them the strength to resist and the wisdom to replace this obsession with activities that glorify You. Surround them with godly influences and keep them distracted from this sin. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior. Amen.
Hofgelyn, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God's Word, memorizing and meditating on scriptures that speak of purity and holiness. Seek godly fellowship and accountability, and remember that God is faithful to provide a way out of temptation. "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB)
Keep your focus on Jesus, and He will help you overcome this struggle. "Looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:2 WEB)
