The Dowry
The Lord's Parting Gift!
The Lord's Parting Gift!
John 14:16-17
16. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
COMMENT
In the above verse, our Lord is about to depart from His bride (the assembly /disciples). And similar to old wedding practices, our Lord pays a type of *Dowry before He leaves. The Dowery is a form of Security before His eventual wedding.
Dowries were types of financial security to cover unforeseeable events, hardships, and children security. Dowries are not just about money. Anything that will be beneficial for the bride's future.
In this case Jesus (groom) was paying a blessed Dowry until His return to marry His bride, the Assembly.
Jesus gave us the Great Comforter, the Holy Spirit. But as verse 17 alludes to, you must be worthy of the Gift, you must know Jesus - be in a Loving relationship. To know Jesus is to know the Spirit.
The Dowry is more than just a gift. It's is a Groom's promise to return. It is your authentication or your legitimacy to enter the Father's Family.
Our Lord has entrusted you with the Dowry. Therefore keep your proverbial Lamp (Your Dowry) shining until the Groom's return.
Seize the Gift! It is your Holy Seal identifying you as one of His.
Holy Spirit, You are welcome into my life! I surrender all!
Thank You Jesus!
