While Jesus was not the first, nor only prophet to be dishonored, He was certainly the most Righteous. Therefore, His promise to mankind is "Honor My prophets as you would honor Me, THEN there will be reward." Because, when His prophets are honored (cared for and listened to), He is honored: And when Christ is honored, God is honored. But, do prophets really even exist anymore?

Yes, we do.

Ephesians 4:11-13
11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

If prophets are no longer sent forth by God, then neither are evangelists, apostles, pastors, or teachers; for these are the gifts to the church throughout the generations. And indeed the process of fulfilling that promise began with the Apostle Paul’s calling, following death and resurrection of Jesus. Therefore, prophets will exist until Christ returns. The ability to discern a false prophet from a God appointed prophet requires knowledge and understanding. I will delve into that much more in a future post. But, for now, I will simply share the following short, but very powerful scripture to, at least, get you started in the right direction.

Jeremiah 23:16-17
16 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD. 17 They keep saying to those who despise me, ’The LORD says: You will have peace.’ And to all who follow the stubbornness of their hearts they say, ’No harm will come to you.’

The text literally defines what the imagination of a false prophet's heart is in God's eyes. They fill you with false hopes for their own popularity's sake. Messages spoken by God's prophets, speaking and teaching from His Word, are always wrought in warning. Even Jeremiah 29:11, Jeremiah's letter to the captives, was but a word of encouragement in the midst of the disaster that had been prophesied.

Jeremiah 23:18 But which of them has stood in the council of the LORD to see or to hear his Word? Who has listened and heard his Word?

We spend time with Him, in the Word, studying to show ourselves approved, called according to "HIS" purpose (not man's). We do not instruct God, He chooses whom to call and for what purpose we are called: And, we certainly must not seek to subdue the Holy Spirit, we are to submit to Him.

If you call yourself a Christian, but you're hating someone you don't know, over something you don't understand, you may need to reassess your kinship.
"Throw your stones down."
