We are glad to hear your desire to draw closer to God during this Lent season.
Firstly, it is wonderful that you acknowledged the mighty name of Jesus in your request. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. And it is only by the name of Jesus that we can be saved from our sins and from death. Jesus is the only one that has defeated death. For it is written:
There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. WEB Acts 4:12
who, though he was in the form of God, didn't consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. WEB Philippians 2:6-11
Since you mentioned that you want to abstain from alcohol. It is true that the Bible mentions not to be drunk with wine. And that we should be abstinent of anything that we feel we do not have control over.
Don't be drunken with wine, in which is excess, but be filled with the Spirit. WEB Ephesians 5:18
And if you are avoiding certain meats during Lent, remember that the Bible mentions that certain foods are not to be consumed. And that we should not put any stumbling blocks in front of our brothers and sisters.
But flesh with the life-blood in it you shall not eat. WEB Genesis 9:4
For though we walk in the flesh, we don't wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. WEB 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
It is good that you want to be more diligent. The Bible mentions that we should run the race to win. And to be diligent in our walk with Christ.
Don't you know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run like that, that you may win. Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. I therefore run like that, as not uncertainly. I fight like that, as not beating the air, but I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected. WEB 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Let us pray together with you.
Heavenly Father, we come before you in the mighty name of Jesus, to lift up our brother/sister who has requested our prayers. Lord, we ask that you help them in their journey to draw closer to you during this Lent season. Help them to abstain from alcohol and certain meats, strengthen their diligence and self-control, and grant them a closer relationship with you. We pray for their family, Lord, that you may keep them and provide for their needs. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
