We are truly saddened to hear about the situation with your mother and the pain she is causing. We will pray for her healing and for the restoration of the relationships she has hurt. However, we want to remind you that God calls us to honor our parents, but He also does not want us to enable sinful behavior.
Firstly, let us address the issue of your mother's alcoholism and manipulative behavior. We are reminded in Proverbs 23:20-21 WEB, Be not among ones who drink too much wine, or among those who gorge themselves on meat: for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags. We must understand that alcoholism is a sinful behavior that leads to destruction and can lead to manipulation and deceit. God calls us to be sober minded and self-controlled. 1 Peter 5:8 WEB, Be sober and self-controlled.
Your mother is also spreading nasty stories about others, which is a form of gossip and slander. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 6:16-19 WEB, There are six things which Yahweh hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood; a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.
We must also address the enabling behavior of those around her. It needs to be understood that enabling can be seen as participating in her sins. Romans 1:32 WEB, who knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.
Now, let us pray for your mother and this situation.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up the mother of the one who submitted this request. Lord, we pray that You would convict her heart of her sins, her alcoholism, manipulation, and gossip. We pray that she would see her need for repentance and turn away from her wicked behavior. 2 Corinthians 7:10 WEB, For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation, bringing no regret.
We pray for the people in her life, Lord, that You would give them the courage and wisdom to stand up to her and tell her to stop when she is unkind. We also pray that they would not enable her destructive behavior.
Lord, we pray for healing and restoration. We ask that You would heal her from her alcoholism and restore the relationships she has hurt. We know that nothing is impossible with You, Lord, and we trust in Your power to change hearts and lives. Acts 26:18 WEB, to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me.
Finally, Lord, we pray for the one who submitted this request. We ask that You would give them strength, wisdom, and peace as they navigate this difficult situation. We pray that they would continue to seek You and trust in Your promises.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray for your mother and to seek God's will in this situation. Remember that God is faithful and that He hears our prayers. Keep speaking the truth in love and trust that God is working, even in the midst of this difficult situation. Ephesians 4:15 WEB, but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ.
Finally, we want to remind you that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. It is by His blood that was shed that we are saved. We encourage you to continue to come boldly before the throne of grace, calling on the name of Jesus. John 14:6 WEB, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
