We are truly sorry to hear about the situation you are facing, and we are here to pray and provide counsel from a biblical perspective. First, we want to remind you that God is always with you, even in difficult times. As it says in Psalm 34:18, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."
In this situation, it's important to remember that God calls us to forgive, even when it's difficult. Ephesians 4:32 tells us, "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you." Forgiveness does not mean that what your brother did is acceptable, but it releases you from the burden of bitterness and resentment.
However, forgiveness does not negate the need for justice and restitution. You can and should seek for your brother to do what is right and return the money. Proverbs 22:7 says, "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." Your brother has a moral and biblical obligation to repay what he borrowed.
We also want to address the feeling of shame. Remember that your identity is not defined by this situation or any mistakes you may have made. If you are in Christ, your identity is in Him. Romans 8:1 says, "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up our brother who is going through a difficult time. Lord, we pray for Your comfort and strength to surround him. Help him to forgive his brother, just as You have forgiven us through Christ Jesus. We pray for a spirit of conviction to fall upon his brother, that he may be compelled to do what is right and return the money.
Lord, we also pray for healing from the feelings of shame, hurt, and betrayal. Help him to find his worth and identity in you Jesus. In Jesus Name, guide him through this challenging time, and help him to see the goodness in life once again.
In Jesus Christ Name we pray. Amen.
Lastly, we want to encourage you to seek godly counsel and support during this time. Share your burdens with trusted friends, family, or a local church community.
