What motivates you to obey God? For that matter, what motivates you to talk to God?

If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed. - Albert Einstein -

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
- 1 John 4:18 -

Worldly men fight sin through fear of punishment; Godly men fight sin through their faith in Love." - C444 -

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him
- 1 John 4:16 -

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
- Romans 13:8 -

The old testament was written for people who had fallen. The new testament is written for people who are rising. -C444-

In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away
- Hebrews 8:13 -

So what had changed?

Hebrews 8:8-10

8. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9. Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

The new covenant is not etched in stone but in our hearts. Our love for God is our check and balance system. It is what motivates us to obey, not fear or selfish rewards. We obey because we Love!

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments.
-1 John 5:2 -

Love is our motivational factor!

Note: the fear if God refers to deep reverence and not being deathly afraid of God. You cannot truely love someone when you are afraid of that person.

The love of God and His mercy motivates every single Christian to follow Him all the way to heaven. His word inspires us to do the right thing and to obey what He said. Love one another as I have loved you. We should appreciate all those wonderful promises He has given to all of us to live a holy and pure life before Him and then end up in glory when we depart planet earth.

What motivates you to obey God? For that matter, what motivates you to talk to God?
What motivates me to obey God: (1) Love (2) Respect (3) Fear.
What motivates me to talk to God: Prayer for myself, Prayer for others, Praise, Worship, Life, Life Problems, Questions I want answers to, and if I think about it, I know I can come up with other reasons to talk to God. God is my best friend. And God calls me friend. Friends talk to each other about many things.

Note: the fear if God refers to deep reverence and not being deathly afraid of God. You cannot truely love someone when you are afraid of that person.
The term motivation refers to internal processes that serve to activate, guide and maintain behavior. IT therefore begs the question "why do people persist in certain courses of action? From a religious perspective people tend to adhere to the Christian Religion either because they are afraid of going to Hell or because they would like to go to Heaven.
I once heard a preacher from a Christian Fundamentalist Church said that the reason why the Pentecostal Churches are growing so rapidly is because the preachers try to frighten the people about how terrible an intolerable hell fire will be. He continued by saying the preach a gospel of doom and gloom.
I replied to him that I think it is balanced. WWe preach about the joys of Heaven as well as the horror of Hell.
People alsoaccept Christianity because of that supreme sacrifice that Jesus made for the sins of humanity even though He was the spitless son of God.
How can we then not serve Him or hiw can we choose Satan instead of Jesus Christ?Jesus said,"If anyone will come after me, let him take up his cross daily and follow after me."(St. Luke 9 : 23.)

Thank you Checen. Yes there's a balance. I have found fear to work well as a tutor to the uninitiated in Christ, much like a child is taught to obey or fear punishment.
Paul said; When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
It is also written;
In that he says, "A new covenant," he has made the first old. But that which is becoming old and grows aged is near to vanishing away.

Yes we all struggle at some level with fear but I personally don't require the fear of hell to motivate me to heaven. I know God's Love is all encompassing. I see fear as a destroyer of faith. I personally do not look at hell to keep me on track. God's Love accomplishes this. God keeping me strong, it's my faith that destroys fear.
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

So that no one misunderstands me, I'm not referring to the fear of God. That fear is deep reverence.

Thank you for sharing my friend. I truly enjoy reading your comments.
