Lying lips an abomination to the Lord.

Many of us do not know the meaning of a lie or lying.
According to Bible dictionary, the meaning is to practice deceit, falsehood, and treachery either by word or action. It is the exact opposite of truth.
Much to the church’s shame, many Christians continue to give in to the temptation to lie their way through life.

What does God think of this?
"Thou shall not lie" is one of the ten commandments, but even Christians have trouble with this commandment.

In John 8:44 Jesus says about the liars:
You belong to your father, the devil.
So when we lie we are yielding to the clutches of the devil.

There are many verses in Bible in which God says He hates lying and LIARS.
I just quote a few.

Proverbs 6:19
There are six things that the Lord hates,....
........a lying tonque .......

Proverb 12:22
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord,

Psalm 5:6
You destroy those who lies.

Revelation 21:8
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and ALL LIARS their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Many of us think that casual lies are not a sin. God hates even that.

(But in some situations God forgives.
Eg: after marriage if a husband / wife asks about an affair before marriage, one cannot say the truth as it MAY spoil the peace between the couple.)

So I just want to say that we should not fall a prey to devil who is a liar from the beginning. Genesis 3:4

Yes! Before a person dies the trueth is exposed. So lying is a sin.

All liers, all thieves, cheats, spammers, phishers and those who reject Jesus like the atheists and agnostics shall not inherit the kingdom of God. All Christians should be praying for all hackers who love to lie on line and get on our personal mail and say horrible things about us. Satan is using them. Fast and pray for them to get saved and be on the road that leads to heaven.

You just cannot give up on someone who lies a lot and then confesses that he did to save his skin. Jesus loves them. He has died for them. Fast and pray for each one who comes along with deceitful attitude.

Even to save my marriage one shouldn't lie knowing that the Truth will set us free. Yes Muani, you are absolutely correct.
I am also of the same opinion that any lying small or big is a sin because we are going against God's commandment.
I knew a family which broke because the girl opened to her husband an affair she had with a man after she became saved thinking that she should tell the truth to her husband. That's why I wrote that.
But as you said if we ask the Lord surely He would protect. But some dont have that much faith to believe that. It's better to avoid in such circumstances.
Anyway , I don't know to say much about that. Because I had that experience with that family I wrote that.

No Muani, I didn't know what happened to her after that. I used to think of her often. Broken families break my heart and I pray much for them.
