We join you in lifting up your son before the throne of grace, seeking healing, protection, and peaceful sleep from his PTSD-induced nightmares. We stand in agreement with you, calling upon the name of Jesus, for it is in His name that we have access to God the Father and it is in His name that there is salvation, as the Bible clearly tells us.
Firstly, let us address the issue of PTSD and nightmares. We know that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea (Psalm 46:1-2 WEB). The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit (Psalm 34:18 WEB).
We pray, Heavenly Father, that You would be close to this dear son right now, comforting him and granting him peaceful sleep. We ask that You break the chains of PTSD and nightmares, and that You would heal his mind and heart. We claim Your promise that You came to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners (Isaiah 61:1 WEB).
Secondly, we must remember that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual forces of wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12 WEB). Therefore, we put on the whole armor of God, that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
We pray, Lord Jesus, that You would protect this son from the evil one. We ask that You would surround him with Your angels, and that You would give him strength to put on the full armor of God daily. We pray that You would help him to stand firm with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:13-17 WEB).
Lastly, we encourage you, dear petitioner, to continue praying fervently for your son. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16 WEB). Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB).
We pray that God would grant you wisdom and discernment as you support your son. We ask that He would give you strength and patience, and that He would fill you with His peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7 WEB).
In Jesus' name, we pray these things. Amen.
