The Extra Mile
One of the greatest misnomer in society today is the belief that true Love is an emotion. Nothing can be further than the truth. All we need to do is examine an emotion. When we face a positive stressor we are happy; a negative stressors we are sad, or scared, or even angry. Emotions are temporary and it is not at all what scriptures report God's Love as being. If Love was truly an emotion then it would be tossed to and fro our minds and our hearts, just like all other emotions. It would be here this moment, gone the next. Just like secular love. This is not of God.
Love is God highest form of order. It may generate emotions but it is far more superior.
God's Love is endless, edifying, and restorative. Its labour intensive. True Love brings righteous works, not like its worldly counterpart. Love is beyond good intentions. Love goes the extra mile.
The bible says that Love is sacrificial, Love is patient, Love is kind. It does not envy, nor does it boast. Love is humble. It does not dishonor nor is it self-serving. The temperance of Love is exceedingly high, it forgives and does not keeps records of wrong doing. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love uplifts. Love keeps on giving relentlessly, with all of its heart, with all of its soul, and with all of its mind. Love never fails.
How shall we love God...
Luke 10:25
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
The above verse goes beyond just knowing biblical scriptures and attesting your Love for God. It must include a labour of love... a call to action. We must be obedient and walk righteously.
1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
The apostles laboured in God's Love.
Acts 20:35
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Love is labour intensive. It is not passive like its counterfeit. Love is sitting on the other side of good intentions. We must take action.
Matthew 5:41
And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles
Go the extra mile!
