Luke 17:3
Be careful. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him.

15. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

COMMENT
Our Lord sets the standard on repenting and forgiveness. We can take three points from our Lord with respect to forgiveness:

1. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him. Rebuke means to reprimand; strongly warn.
2. If he's remorseful and repents, you must forgive him. It really does not matter how many times your brother trespassed against you. If he shows remorse, you must forgive him.
3. If you do not forgive then the Father will not forgive you!

“Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”

It is interesting to note that we are instructed by the Lord to rebuke the offender. We can't just sweep it under the rug.
Although we must practice respect and Love when confronting the said person, we must still deal with the matter and not avoid the offender. This has a very strong psychological application. We must not allow matters to build up inside or risk creating a breeding ground for hostility. Don't let resentment grow. You can't love one another if you don't forgive. For people are imperfect and will offend you. You will need to forgive them.
The act of forgiveness allows Love to carry on!
