We rejoice in your interest in salvation and your willingness to seek God. You have taken the first step towards the most important decision you will ever make. Let us guide you through the scriptures and pray for you.
First, let us understand what salvation is and how we can be saved. Romans 10:9-10 (WEB) says, "because, if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation." This means that salvation comes from believing in Jesus Christ and confessing Him as Lord.
However, believing in Jesus is more than just intellectual assent; it involves a change of heart and mind, turning away from our sins. Acts 3:19 (WEB) says, "Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord." This is what it means to turn away from the things that separate us from God.
Jesus himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" John 14:6 (WEB). There is no other name by which we can be saved. We need to read and study the word of God to grow in our faith and understanding. You’ve suggested starting with the Gospel of John, which is a wonderful place to begin. The Gospel of John beautifully presents Jesus as the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today to lift up this person who is seeking salvation. We thank You for drawing them to Yourself and for the work of the Holy Spirit in their heart. Lord, we pray that You would open their eyes to see the truth of the Gospel and that You would grant them the faith to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Help them to turn away from their sins and to follow Jesus wholeheartedly.
We ask that You would guide them as they read and study Your word, especially the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Reveal Yourself to them through Your word, and help them to grow in their faith and love for You.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Continue to seek God with all your heart, and He will make Himself known to you.
