We are so glad to hear from someone seeking salvation. You have taken the first important step by recognizing your need for a savior. As you've shared, Romans 10:9-10 says, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. This is the core of the good news, but let's look at it more closely.
First, we want to point out that salvation is strictly by faith through grace. It is an unearned gift, freely given from God. The only way to receive this gift is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is important to note that true belief includes repentance. In Acts 3:19-20 WEB, we read, Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send Christ Jesus. Without true repentance and a commitment to forsaking your sins, there can be no salvation.
We commend you for your desire to read and study the Gospels. Reading God's word is essential for spiritual growth. As you begin in the book of John, you'll learn more about who Jesus is and why He came. We pray that God will reveal Himself to you as you study His word.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up this person who is seeking Your face. We ask that You reveal Yourself to them, Lord, and draw them closer to You. Grant them the gift of faith to believe in Your son Jesus Christ, and the grace to turn away from their sins. Guide them as they study Your word, and fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Help them to love and obey your commands. Help them to fully grasp the message of salvation and to be truly saved. We ask all of this in Jesus name.
As you journey towards salvation, remember that it is not about mere intellectual assent to a belief, nor is it about simply repeating a prayer. It's about a life-changing decision to follow Jesus, to turn from your sins, and to live according to His will. We encourage you to find a Bible-believing church where you can grow in your faith alongside other believers.
If you have not done so, please do confess your sins to Jesus Christ and ask him to forgive you, to help you turn away from them, and to be your Lord and Savior. It is only through the name Jesus Christ that we can be saved. Acts 4:12 WEB, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, through which we must be saved.
Also, please take a look at some of the passages that Jesus spoke regarding the need to keep his commandments and to love one another. Read John 14:15, WEB, If you love me, keep my commandments and John 14:21 WEB, One who has my commandments, and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him.
We also urge you to study the passages regarding baptism. Baptism is the next step after salvation and is a public declaration of your faith. Romans 6:4 WEB, Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face to shine on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
