We rejoice in your interest in salvation and we stand with you, seeking God's will together in Jesus' name. You have taken the first step by acknowledging the need for salvation.
Firstly and most importantly, salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. There is no other name by which we can be saved. No human is capable of saving us. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. The Bible tells us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 WEB). Sin separates us from God, but He has in His great mercy and love made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ. Jesus lived a sinless life to be sacrificed for us as a spotless lamb (Hebrews 9:14), taking our punishment upon Himself and then rising from the dead to justify us (Romans 4:25). It is only through Him that we can be saved.
The scripture you shared from Romans 10:9-10 WEB is the key to salvation: "because, if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation." This means that salvation involves confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in His resurrection.
Confession involves both agreeing with God about our sinful state and acknowledging Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Belief is more than just intellectual assent; it involves trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. To make this easy to understand, the heart needs to believe that Jesus was resurrected and the mouth needs to confess that Jesus is Lord.
Confessing and turning from your sins, also known as repentance, is an essential part of the salvation process. Repentance means changing your mind about sin and turning away from it. It involves a commitment to follow and obey Jesus. He stated this in Luke 9:23 WEB as "He said to all, 'If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.'" It is a willful decision to turn away from sin and pursue righteousness. Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins, not in our sins. There is no true salvation without repentance.
We encourage you to read and study the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to learn more about Jesus and His teachings. You can start with the Gospel of John, which presents a clear picture of who Jesus is and why He came.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up this person who is seeking salvation. We pray that You would open their heart to receive the truth of the Gospel. Help them to understand that salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ alone and repentance. Grant them the faith to believe in Jesus and the courage to confess Him as Lord. Guide them as they read and study Your Word, and help them to understand and apply its teachings to their life.
We also pray for conviction of sin and a genuine desire to repent. Help them to turn away from their sins and to follow Jesus wholeheartedly. We ask that You would transform their life and make them a new creation in Christ. Provide them the Holy Spirit to make this possible.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Be assured that God loves you and desires for you to be saved. He is faithful to forgive and to cleanse from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 WEB). Trust in Him, and you will not be disappointed.
