Prayer, confess and turn from your sins is surely needed for salvation but that's not all. Confess and turn from means forsake, renounce, not to stand back in our sin. We are to thus be baptized to Jesus Christ and 'put on Christ. Baptism occurs at the moment of salvation when it is the physical reflection of what has happened and in your heart you have believed. As Paul says in Galatians 3:27

for as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
