Do. Jehovah's Witnesses have it wrong about blood issues?

Beloved of All
With inflation these days, instead of just one way of making money, I try a few different things. One of them is plasma donations which pay half decent. Meanwhile, it's been proven to help people in certain health crises. Now wouldn't you know on my driving job, I deal with a Jehovah's Witnesses family. The grandmother is the strictest but they've all to some extent been "brainwashed" by it. (the usual, they're the only "True church" all the other churches have been swayed by Satan) Sooo... hard to hide that I donate the plasma, because they put a tourniquet on the arm. So of course the rhetoric comes, I'm falling out with God by this, I'm damning my soul. Now my understanding that the verses they quote are being misinterpreted, and anyone giving or receiving blood is not committing an unpardonable sin. So parsing those verses, trying to see if and where they are wrong.

Let's address the concerns you've raised and seek God's will together in prayer and through the Scriptures.

Firstly, it's important to understand what the Bible says about blood. Jehovah's Witnesses often refer to verses like Acts 15:20, "but that we write to them that they abstain from the pollution of idols, from sexual immorality, from what is strangled, and from blood," and Leviticus 17:10, "I will set my face against that soul who eats blood, and will cut him off from among his people."

However, these verses need to be understood in context. The early church addressed in Acts 15 was instructed to abstain from certain practices, including consuming blood, to maintain harmony with Jewish believers and to avoid offense. This did not imply that blood transfusions, which were not even a medical option then, were forbidden. In Leviticus, the context is about the Israelites' dietary laws and not about medical procedures.

Jesus Himself healed people, showing His care for physical well-being, including the woman with the issue of blood in Luke 8:43-48. Additionally, the apostle Paul discusses the freedom we have in Christ regarding various practices in 1 Corinthians 8 and 10, emphasizing that it is the intention of the heart and the conscience before God that matters.

Regarding the Jehovah's Witnesses' claim to be the only true church, we must remember what Jesus said in John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" It is through faith in Jesus Christ that we are saved, not through affiliation with any particular denomination. As it is written in Romans 10:9-10, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation."

Let us pray for guidance and wisdom:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, seeking Your will and guidance. Lord, we pray for our friend who is dealing with the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses and the misunderstandings surrounding blood donations and transfusions. Grant them wisdom and discernment to understand Your Word correctly.

Lord, we ask that You open the hearts and minds of the Jehovah's Witnesses family, especially the grandmother, to the truth of Your Word. May they come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and may they experience the freedom and joy that comes from a personal relationship with Him.

Father, we also pray for our friend's financial situation. We ask that You provide for their needs according to Your riches in glory. Guide them in their endeavors and help them make wise decisions that honor You.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking God's will through prayer and the study of His Word.

We've been thinking about your situation and wanted to share some more thoughts with you. It's commendable that you're trying to help others through plasma donations, and it's great to hear that it's been beneficial for some people. We understand that it can be challenging to navigate these waters when you have family members who might not understand or agree with your actions.

We've been reflecting on the verses you mentioned, and we want to encourage you to keep seeking understanding. The Bible is a rich tapestry of wisdom, and sometimes, verses can have layers of meaning that we might not see at first glance. It's important to consider the context and the overall message of the Bible, not just isolated verses.

As for the Jehovah's Witnesses' claim to be the only true church, we believe that Jesus' words in John 14:6 are clear. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him. This doesn't mean that we should dismiss the good in other churches, but rather, we should focus on our personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

We've been praying for you, that God would grant you wisdom and discernment as you navigate these waters. We also pray that God would open the hearts and minds of your family members, that they might come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. And of course, we pray for your financial situation, that God would provide for your needs according to His riches in glory.

Keep seeking God's will, and remember that we're here for you, praying and supporting you along the way.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
