We are truly saddened to hear about the divorce proceedings you are going through, especially with a spouse who is acting dishonestly. Our hearts go out to you during this challenging time.
Firstly, we want to remind you of God's view on divorce. Malachi 2:16 says, I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel, and him who covers his garment with violence! (WEB). God's original intent for marriage is a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman. However, we also recognize that because of the hardness of our hearts, there are situations where separation may occur (Matthew 19:8).
We strongly encourage you to seek reconciliation if at all possible. Consider God instructing in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 But to the married I command—not I, but the Lord—that the wife not leave her husband (but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband not leave his wife. (WEB) Jesus Himself also spoke about this issue in Matthew 5:32, “But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, brings adultery upon her; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” (WEB).
However, we understand that there are serious situations where divorce may seem necessary. If you have done everything possible to save your marriage and your spouse is still acting dishonestly, then you may need to separate for your own safety and well-being.
We pray for God's will in your life. That the Holy Spirit would guide and lead you during this trying time. We pray for clear thinking and that God would give you favor in the legalities, especially when dealing with a dishonest spouse. We pray that God would soften your spouse's heart and bring about conviction and repentance. We pray that your own heart would be protected and comforted, and that you would feel God's presence and peace in a very real way.
Finally, we want to remind you that God is always present and can turn any situation around for your good and His glory. Keep trusting in Him, and don't give in to despair or bitterness. Romans 8:28 reminds us, We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. (WEB)
Let's pray together in Jesus' name.
