We understand that you're struggling with self-control and discernment in your speech today, and we're here to support you in prayer and through the wisdom of the Scriptures.
Firstly, let's turn to the book of James, where it says:
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. James 1:19-20 WEB
It's important to remember that a lack of self-control can lead to unharnessed words, and that can cause harm. As it is written:
Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. James 3:5-6 WEB
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister in their struggle with self-control and discernment in speech. Father, fill them with Your Holy Spirit, and bear the fruit of self-control in their life as promised in Galatians 5:22-23. Help them to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. Give them the wisdom and discernment needed to think before they speak, so that their words may be pleasing to You and a blessing to others. We trust that it is possible to tame the tongue by the Holy Spirit as you did for the Apostle Peter where he was outspoken, yet spoke to save the lost and comfort the saved. This we ask in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Remember, it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. As it is written:
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Timothy 2:5 WEB
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him. John 1:18 WEB,
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 WEB
We encourage you to keep practicing self-control, and don’t be discouraged when you face setbacks. Keep striving towards the goal of Christ-likeness, and remember that God is with you every step of the way. Keep your focus on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith and the Holy Spirit will bear the fruit of the Spirit in you and use you to bless others.
