Be wary of idolatry

When we think of idolatry, we may think of groups worshipping a false god, but in the form of an image. Even the Catholics praying to Mary. However, I would think there are other ways someone can be guilty of it. Like anything that is focused on at the exclusion of God. Like of the people I drive around with, there is a young (###) lady who, when her boyfriend calls or she calls him, sits there transfixed, staring at him in the video chat, not as a courtesy in talking, I mean even if he doesn't say anything. Puts the phone on the dashboard, tunes everything out, (including, I suspect, God) and just stares at him. Question, would this be idolatry (since she listens to everything he says, including ungodly things) and the requesting that both unsaved and unwittingly Christians pull away from idolatry.

We've been thinking about your concern, and it's true, idolatry can take many forms. It's not just about worshipping false gods or images, but also about giving anything else priority over God in our lives. That young lady you mentioned, she might be in danger of making her boyfriend an idol. She's not just listening to him, but giving him her full attention, even when he's not speaking. It's like she's putting him on a pedestal, above everything else, even God. Let's pray for her, and for all of us, that we may recognize and turn away from any idols in our lives. Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
