YOU CAN LEARN TO PRAY MORE SPECIFICALLY
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. Isaiah 61:1-3
How are you doing in your stand? I know if you are having a bad day, you would love to have someone pray with you who believes in marriage restoration. You may be a stander who is feeling hopeless and having a difficult time. You may not feel like praying or reading your Bible. Does that sound familiar? Do you know what is happening? The enemy is coming against you in a different way than he is attacking your spouse.
I failed my husband and children. Due to my lack of knowledge in God’s Word, I filed for divorce and did not forgive Bob of his unfaithfulness. The Lord revealed to me after our divorce, His plan of how He would restore my marriage. I went to church and heard a testimony of a couple who shared how the wife prayed, fasted and believed in the mighty power of God to transform her husband’s heart and life. The Lord touched and changed him completely. Then after a few years, they were Gospel singers traveling, singing and sharing their testimony and the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
After hearing their testimony on Sunday, I started studying the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, about prayer and the power of our Lord who came to seek, save the lost and heal the sick. During the past 20 plus years, I have loved reading books about prayer and about spiritual warfare. The Lord taught me after I ran out of words to start praying Paul’s prayers (For example: Ephesians 1:16-20, Ephesians 3:16-20, Philippians 1:9-11, Colossians 1:9-1), and other scriptures with Bob’s name and my family’s names in them. There is such power in praying God’s Word and in time you will see the evidence of a person’s heart softening.
Are you getting dressed for spiritual battle every day? Are you putting the Armor of God on your spouse and family? Are you putting the hedge of protection, the Blood of Jesus around you, your spouse, children, your marriage, health, finances, property, career, goals, and God’s plans and purposes for now and in the future? Are you reading the Bible almost daily? If you are, then you are growing in the Lord.
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
May I remind you that you are in a spiritual battle. It says in John 10:10 (NKJV): The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. What a promise!
This scripture shows us that it is the enemy, Satan, who is coming against you, your spouse and your marriage. It is not your spouse who is your enemy, but Satan. (Ephesians 6:12). I say this frequently, as often it looks like and sounds like the enemy may be your spouse, but your spouse has been deceived and is blinded. (Isaiah 42:6-7). I want you to learn how to stand firm in the Lord. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Put all your faith, hope and trust in your Lord God who created the Heavens and the Earth.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:10-12
I always want you and all standers to seek the Lord. Ask Him if there is any area in your life that needs to be cleansed from any impurities. A very good way to do this is to pray Psalm 51 as a prayer for yourself and then pray your spouse’s name in it regularly.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24
You or your spouse have been deceived by a temptation in the mind, thoughts or fantasies to the point of having thoughts of leaving home or finding happiness which seemed right. The thoughts became more than flirting, but sinful thoughts and you or your spouse were not taking them captive to be Christ-like thoughts. The Holy Spirit speaks to our hearts, “This is wrong. Beware. Why am I thinking such thoughts? Because Satan is tempting to sift you as wheat!†Why? The enemy has lied to you/your spouse as they have not been reading God’s Word daily or praying, and became deceived and blinded by Satan’s darkness.
“I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.â€
Will you pray more specifically? You may have feelings or emotions of depression, sorrow, despair, hopelessness, loneliness, rejection, or self-pity just to mention a few symptoms. That may be a spirit of Heaviness, which is coming against you. Bind against the spirit of Heaviness and loose on yourself the garment of praise, the oil of joy and the Holy Spirit. Another spirit to pray against is the Lying Spirit and loose on your spouse and loved ones the Spirit of Truth.
The first step in learning how to do this is to bind against the sinful nature as in Galatians 5:19-21 and then loose on you or family the fruit of the Spirit as in Galatians 5:22-23. Just imagine if you would pray that your loved ones would crucify their sinful nature and surrender their heart and life to the Lord. May we never stop praying for the salvation of family members who have backslidden or may have never really known the Lord. What a day of victory in your spouse’s eyes and heart to see, hear, understand and know God’s truth which will set them free! The scales will fall off their eyes.
More than one of my concordances said about Galatians 5:19-21: When the desire of the flesh has the upper hand, the worlds of the flesh are obvious. …Paul’s point is that this type of behavior as a pattern of life is evidence that a person is not saved. (See the list in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Holman Study Bible (NKJV)
Will you stand in the gap for your husband/wife or child who has fallen into temptation as a backslidden believer or who has never really known God’s truths? Either way your spouse believed the lies of the enemy. Will you stand firm in your faith, going forward every day fighting for your spouse, marriage and all marriages, taking back from Satan the territory that He has stolen? Your Lord is right there beside you!
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
