[Jesus continued his message to the seventy-two disciples, referring to any town that rejects the disciples and his message:] "I assure you, even wicked Sodom will be better off than such a town on judgment day."

Luke 10:12 NLT

Key Thought

Jesus was trying to help his disciples understand the dire consequences for those who rejected his message that they were taking to the neighboring towns. For those of Jewish heritage, there was no worse example of evil than the city of Sodom. Nor was there a more powerful example of God's judgment for rejecting an opportunity to turn from evil than the destruction of Sodom. Jesus wanted to make clear that rejecting him, his messengers, and his message was worse than the evil in Sodom. It was choosing a fate worse than Sodom. This sobering truth should make us realize how precious the message of Jesus is for the salvation of the lost world!

Today's Prayer

Father, in a world of relativism where the only value sometimes seems to be to despise those with values, please help me know the importance of the Good News of Jesus Christ with both my mind and my heart. Never let me take it lightly. Never let me neglect the need others have to know your Son as their LORD. Instead, please use me to do something useful and effective that influences others to know your Son as their Savior. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
