WILL YOU SEEK HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS?
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:33
What a beginning for 2014 with snowy weather in so many states! I pray that you are home safe from any holiday traveling and have started a new year with the Lord, your family and back at work.
May I ask you a personal question this new year? Where are you spiritually compared to last year? Are you closer to the Lord or are you drifting away because of your own emotions and feelings of despair or hopelessness? Are you thinking, “I don't have time to read the Bible and pray? You don't understand my schedule! Look at all that I must do!"
Are these some of your thoughts today? I pray that even though this past year may have included some heartache, pain, suffering, a separation or possibly a divorce, that you have made a giant step of seeking and growing in the Lord. Have you been touched and changed by the Lord on your own Damascus Road experience? I know I was. Have you allowed the power of the Holy Spirit to direct your steps regarding your marriage restoration?
Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22
Are you holding your hands up in front of you, as if to say to the Lord, "I did not hear from my husband or wife this year? This is too hard to do. I do not know if the Lord has really spoken to my heart!†Then stop and ask the Lord today, “Am I supposed to stand and pray for my spouse?†The Lord will remind you of many incidents or scriptures or testimonies you have heard recently or a few months ago when your spouse revealed that they wanted out of your marriage.
I pray that you will seek and grow in the basic requirements for living a Christ-like lifestyle while we "hunger and thirst for righteousness daily." The enemy goes after each of us in different ways to keep us from praying and talking to the Lord in a daily quiet time, reading God’s Word every day, and believing in God's mighty power, strength, grace and mercy for us.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24
You may hear some of your fellow employees talking about making New Year resolutions to try to improve themselves or become a better person or employee. Should you not examine your own heart and ask the Lord if you are where He wants you to be at the beginning of this year spiritually? Your church may have a special time of prayer and fasting to seek the Lord to turn your heart to the Lord for His direction in your life as you start this new year. Ask the Lord to give you a new scripture for the year or a new “rhema†word for your marriage. God has a plan and a purpose to restore, resurrect and breathe new life into your dead marriage. The first step is to touch and change your own heart. How are you doing on your spiritual journey of marriage restoration?
Are you willing to make some changes this new year? Are you listening and following the Lord or have you become like the Israelites in the wilderness, grumbling and complaining about everything that is happening in your life?
You can have a special time with the Lord this week and make a new recommitment to the Lord and to your marriage. The Lord knows all that you have thought or said or any hidden sin that you are struggling with this past year or just recently. Ask the Holy Spirit to help rescue you from the temptations of the enemy coming against you every day with different tricks or schemes. Remember, the enemy is a liar saying, “It does not matter or no one knows,†is a lie from the enemy!
I pray that you will get excited this is a new year as you have no idea what the Lord has planned for your future with your beloved husband or wife and children. May you choose every day to praise the Lord for what you have and do not be anxious about anything, but just trust in the Lord completely.
Allow God to be your Refuge, your Provider, your Strength, your Friend, your Savior, your Lord and your Deliverer. The Lord loves your spouse and family more than you do, so wait on His perfect timing to remove, sever, cut and destroy all ungodly soul ties forever, break down all the strongholds in your spouse's life and break the chains of bondages, suddenly.
The enemy deceived one or both of you in your marriage. The devil deceived you or your spouse that your marriage was not worth working on or blinded you as to how to treat your spouse as the most precious gift from God. Satan's number one tactic is deception. So this new year, beware and examine your heart and ask the Lord if you need to work on some areas in your own heart and life while He is working on your beloved spouse.
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:8-10
I am sure you have heard about the Sermon On The Mount in Matthew 5-7. These chapters contain God's principles of righteousness by which all Christians are to live through faith by the power of the Holy Spirit. May you and I be challenged to live a Christ-like lifestyle that will affect others all around us to be different and for us to radiate the love of our Lord Jesus Christ this new year. May you be the lighthouse in this dark world around people facing marriage problems or divorce. You have God's Word and His answers.
Never give up on your Lord for your own marriage to be resurrected from the dead. You can make a tremendous difference this new year as you ask the Lord what He wants you to do every day. Now start getting excited about what the Lord is going to do for you, your marriage, for loved ones and other marriages in your city, state and around the world.
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:18-1
