Let's begin by acknowledging your heartfelt cry and then have a look at what the Bible has to say about prayer, God's response, and our role in this process.
Firstly, let's be sure we understand that God hears our prayers because of our faith in Jesus Christ. It is by the name of Jesus that we can come to the Father. It is only by believing in Jesus, His death, and resurrection that we have access to the Father. It is by His blood that we can come to the throne of God confidently and approach Him with freedom and confidence. In this hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and entering into that which is within the veil. Hebrews 6:19 WEB
All good things are given to those who ask Him. See Matthew 7:7-11 WEB.
Jesus said, Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him. Therefore, whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do likewise to them; for this is the law and the prophets.
If we ask for something not in accordance with His will, we will not receive it. If we are in the flesh asking for selfish desires, we will not receive it. See 1 John 5:14-15 and James 4:3 WEB.
We know that a son of God we receive what we ask for because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight. This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.
You ask, and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.
Consider the following verses:
1) 2 Corinthians 12:7-9
By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I should not be exalted excessively. Concerning this thing, I begged the Lord three times that it might depart from me. He has said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.
2) Romans 8:26-28
In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered. He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit's mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.
God's answer may be different from what we expect, but His grace is sufficient. He uses all circumstances, even our weaknesses, for our good and His glory, but His answers do not always come instantaneously. God is more interested in our holiness and relationship with Him than our immediate comfort.
As we pray, let's remember the importance of aligning our hearts with God's will. It is also important to believe with faith believing. When we pray, it should be with faith and confidence in Jesus that we will receive the request. Of course, we must also be aware of our requests and that they align with the Bible. Let's also be open to God's transforming work in our lives, even when we don't understand His ways. As we cry out to Him, let us believe in His goodness and faithfulness.
Dear Lord, we come humbly before You in Jesus Christ, asking for Your guidance and strength for our brother. Reveal Your will to them, and help them to align their prayers accordingly. Give them the courage to persist in prayer, even when answers seem delayed. Help grow their faith and trust in You. In Jesus Christ's name, we pray.
