1 Corinthians 15:58 "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
Why are we standing firm for our marriages? Is it because we love our wife so much we cant let go? Is it because we do not want to give up on something God joined together? Is it because we know God hates divorce and we do not want to let Him down? Or is it simply because God told you not to give and wait upon Him? I am sure each one of us has a different answer and a different reason for standing. The main one is in some way shape or form God told us not to give up, and that's why we are still here standing.
Are you standing for marriage restoration, or are you standing on HIS word?
The truth is we should always be standing on HIS word even when times are good. 2 Corinthians 21-22 "Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come." Have you always been standing on HIS word, being a good example of how a Christian man should be? I know I wasn't, not in the least. I was caught up in the world of sin and lived as if there was no punishment for my actions (Its ok I have repented and I am living as a light unto HIM the best I can). The above question is a trick question because if you stand on HIS word then you are also standing for marriage restoration. YAY we are all doing good, right? That depends on who you are putting first in your life.
As you have read in many of my post you know who we should keep first in our lives and above our wives. God should always be first in our life. When we wake up we should pray to HIM, when we walk outside on our way to work we should pray to HIM, when we are at work we should pray to HIM, on our way home we should pray to HIM, in the shower, eating dinner anything we do we need to pray to HIM and include HIS thought in ours. After all he is always there anyway and it would be rude to ignore HIM. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray without ceasing".
1 Corinthians 10:12 "So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you do not fall.".
Again why are you standing? The main reason we should be standing is because we are obeying our Father. John 14:23-24 "Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our abode with him. "He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me.". Again we put HIM first over our desires because we love HIM and we keep HIS word. We are obeying HIM not to get our wives to come back home, but to please HIM so we may be able to enter HIS kingdom on the day of judgment. If we decide this is to hard, I cant wait for her to come back, who are you letting down? Yourself, your wife (even if she says move on) your children, your family and most importantly God. I made a promise to God and myself that I will either be married to my wife or live single for Jesus. A very hard choice and it could possibly mean being without human touch, however I know I will never be alone. I made a vow the day I married my wife I said Tell death do us part, not tell divorce do us part. I made that vow under Gods law, in HIS sight I promised God that I will stay with my wife no matter what happens. Others may not understand or agree, they tell us, "move on, find someone else, no one is worth this". Well I am not doing it for others, I am not even doing it for my wife, I am doing it for my God and myself.
Don't stand so others may see you are doing right by God. Colossians 3:23 "Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.". This is prideful and we all know what God thinks about us being prideful in our actions. When people ask how you are doing simple say I am living my life which belongs to God waiting for Him to bring my wife home. Not only is this a humble statement stating that you are following God and your life is not your own, but it doesn't raise you above your wife and her actions.
Really search your heart on why you stand, is it for selfish reasons, or is it out of strict obedience to God? Every thing we do should be to please our Father. He sees all, knows all and hears all so our actions should always be to please HIM. I urge you to sit in a quiet place and ask God to reveal to you what you should be doing. We know His will is for marriage but are you standing to please Him or others?
2 Corinthians 1:24 "Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm."
Thank you and God bless
