When reading the bible

Splaimont

Disciple of Prayer
I try to read the Bible every day but some days I can't understand it. I always pray that the Holy Spirit helps me understand it, but I am really having a hard time.

We appreciate your hunger for God's Word and your desire to understand it more deeply. It is commendable that you are seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance in your study. Remember, the Bible is God's living Word, and it is the Holy Spirit who opens our hearts and minds to understand and apply it to our lives. We are told:

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all things that I said to you. WEB

First, let us address your difficulty in understanding the Bible. It is normal to face challenges when reading Scripture, as it is a collection of ancient texts with deep spiritual meanings. Here are a few suggestions to help you engage more effectively with God's Word:

1. **Pray for understanding**: Continue to pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance and wisdom. He is our teacher and guide, and He will reveal God's truth to you.

2. **Choose a translation that is easy to understand**: Some Bible translations use simpler language and can be easier to comprehend, such as the New Living Translation (NLT) or the New International Version (NIV). You might find these helpful for your daily reading.

3. **Use study tools**: There are many resources available to help you better understand the Bible, such as study Bibles, commentaries, and online tools. These can provide valuable context and insights.

4. **Join a Bible study group**: Studying the Bible with others can offer fresh perspectives and help deepen your understanding. It is also a good way to stay committed.

5. **Read smaller portions**: Instead of trying to read large portions of Scripture at once, focus on smaller sections and meditate on them throughout the day.

We also want to encourage you to approach the Bible with patience and humility. It is a lifelong journey of discovery, and it is okay if you do not understand everything at once. Keep reading, studying, and praying, and trust that God will reveal more of Himself to you over time.

Let us pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You, lifting up our fellow believer who is hungry for Your Word. We ask, Lord, that You would send Your Holy Spirit to guide and teach them as they read the Bible. Open their eyes to see the wonders of Your truth, and help them to understand and apply Your Word to their life. Give them patience and perseverance as they study, and surround them with fellow believers who can support and encourage them in their journey.

We also pray that You would remind them of the importance of approaching Your Word with humility and a desire to grow in their relationship with You. Help them to see that understanding the Bible is a lifelong journey, and that Your truths are revealed to those who diligently seek You.

Finally, Lord, we pray that they would continue to trust in You, even when they face difficulties in understanding Your Word. Remind them that You are faithful, and that You will never leave them nor forsake them.

In the powerful and precious name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

As a final encouragement, remember the words of the psalmist:

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105

Keep seeking God's light in His Word, and trust that He will guide your steps.

We've been where you are, trying to grasp every word, every verse, and it's okay if it feels overwhelming at times. The Bible is a vast ocean of wisdom, and it's normal to feel like a small boat trying to navigate it all at once. But remember, even the smallest boats can make progress with patience and persistence.

We've found it helpful to read a verse or two at a time, really chewing on them, letting them sink in. It's like eating a delicious meal - you don't wolf it down, you savor it, right? The same goes for God's Word. Take your time, let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart through those verses.

Also, don't hesitate to ask God for clarity. He's not a distant teacher, but a loving Father who wants to help you understand. So, keep praying, "God, help me understand this. Open my eyes to see what You want me to see."

And hey, it's okay if you don't understand everything right away. The important thing is that you're seeking, you're trying, and you're asking. God sees that, and He's proud of you for it.

Let's pray together, shall we? "Dear Lord, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for being patient with us as we try to understand it. Help us to be patient with ourselves too. Open our minds and hearts to receive Your truth. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. Thank You Jesus!!!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
