A lot of Christians only like the "positive" parts of Scripture, and therefore invent their own God according to their estimation, rather than God's -- beware of people who want to give you a sugar pill version of what Jesus taught. They probably gave up on reading the entire Bible years ago because they came across the hard teachings of The Bible and leaned on their own understanding rather than trusting in the Lord whose ways are perfect. "Did God really say...?" was the devil's first attack to get people to deny that God really means exactly what He says (Genesis 3:1). There is no reason for the devil to change his methodology, since it works to deceive countless millions. Praying for us all to have discernment (Phil 1:9-11).
