What does the Bible say about Christians and politics/government

Many Christians seem to be of the belief that they should just steer clear of politics because it's such a corrupt issue and perhaps they feel it's not of their concern or business. But like the saying goes, evil prevails when good people do nothing, and I think we now have so many ungodly laws and practices put into place partly because many Christians chose to stay quiet about such issues, like abortion, or prayer and the commandments being taken out of schools. Is it right that Christians should keep quiet about things relating to politics or should we speak out more and take more action?

Jesus wept when He saw Jerusalem so far away from Him and from God. All Christians should fast and pray for our government and for Israel to be saved. Jesus loves all of them and wants all of them in heaven.
