"WHAT DO YOU WANT ME
TO DO FOR YOU?"
Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. “What do you want me to do for you?†Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.†Mark 10:50-51
My question to you today is, “What is your most urgent prayer request?†It may be for your spouse's salvation, for your marriage restoration, for your finances, for the healing of your children’s hearts or the healing of a family member.
We always close our Monday Night Bible Studies in a large circle for prayer. We tell anyone who desires to pray at least one or two sentences crying out to the Lord for their most urgent prayer request for that week and the others will pray in agreement with them. Imagine if Jesus would enter into our prayer circle and ask every one of our standers, “What do you want me to do for you?†I believe they would know instantly what they truly want more than anything else! What would your answer be if the Lord asked that question to you right now? Then why are we not praying for that persistently and faithfully, seeking the Lord for His divine intervention every day?
Let me share a Bible story which is told in Matthew, Mark and Luke:
Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!†Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!†Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.†So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you.†Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. “What do you want me to do for you?†Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.†“Go,†said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.†Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. Mark 10:46-52
God's mighty power and Bartimaeus’ faith in Jesus Christ's power healed his blind eyes. Imagine this man was crying out as soon as he heard Jesus was coming down the road. Are you crying out to the Lord daily with your most urgent prayer requests? Yes, I cry out for God's mercy on different situations for many people.
The most important sentence in this story is Jesus’ question. Jesus knew Bartimaeus was blind. Jesus knows everything, but He still wanted Bartimaeus to ask for his healing or miracle in his life. Oh, may you and I learn from this powerful scripture that was written three times in the Bible, so I believe God wants us to understand it by the third time! Did you see how Bartimaeus was healed? By His faith! Bartimaeus believed that Jesus could heal him? Do you believe that Jesus can heal your marriage? Can Jesus deliver your spouse from sexual immorality? Is anything too hard for the Lord? Nothing!
This reminds me of another powerful illustration in Luke 18 about always praying and not giving up. This is another very powerful scripture that has a very important principle that we often do not follow. We give up and stop praying. Are you praying specifically for your special prayer requests? I love to teach on this scripture. Read and see what the widow did!
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don't fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!’†And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?†Luke 18:1-8
How would you rate your faith in believing for your most urgent need? You must have faith to receive blessings or miracles from the Lord. I know from personal experience many years ago, the Lord told me I had to “walk and speak in faith†all the time. Are you being persistent and faithful in your prayer time praying for your husband, wife or child or for something else that the Lord has not answered your prayers yet? Do you often forget to pray for that particular need as you feel like it may never happen? You may have been praying for your spouse's salvation for a very long time or your parents’ salvation, but possibly you have stopped praying regularly. Have you lost your love for your husband or wife? Ask the Lord to reignite and rekindle you and your husband’s or wife’s love for each other. May I earnestly beseech you to never give up praying for your prayer list that is in your prayer journal. Your perseverance, tenacity and faith will pay off in God's perfect timing! Remember:
“And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly.†Luke 18:7-8a
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!†Matthew 7:7-11
Are you a believer? Do you really believe in the Lord's mighty power? Your spouse is blinded. Ask your Lord to open your spouse's spiritual eyes and ears to see and hear God's Voice and His Truth. Then ask the Lord to soften your husband’s or wife’s heart!
“I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.†Isaiah 42:6-9
Many people rebuked Bartimaeus for calling on Jesus to heal or touch him. What did he do? He shouted out all the more. I pray that is what you will do each day. Stand firm, believing, and walking in faith, regardless of the many people who may speak many negative words to you. Always keep praising the Lord daily as you pray and wait on the Lord for His blessings and miracles in your life and in your marriage. Your Lord wants your family saved and serving the Lord. Don't give up!
What are you battling personally? Are you battling anger, bitterness, jealousy, loneliness or hopelessness? Cry out to Jesus. Tell Jesus you love Him and believe in His mighty power. Listen! Is Jesus asking you, “What do you want me to do for you today?†Tell Him now!
God bless,
