Magwel

Disciple of Prayer
Hi there, I am pretty new to praying 1 week+ as I learn the Bible. Something came to mind in regards of forgiving others and blessing them.

Scenario: I had a junior meant to assist me in my work and I tried all ways to teach him for 5 months (3 months probation + extension) and many one-to-one / two-to-one meetings until I was forced to give him an ultimatum. The stress and anxiety he gives me is tremendous that I started to truly resent him.

But when he left, I genuinely wish him all the best, maybe I wasn't suitable in mentoring him. It has been a lil over a month since he left but he messages me for assistance on improving his resume and portfolio. My resentment is still there but very muted and what he asks is a small matter so I'm very willing to answer him.

I would like to learn how to pray to forgive him, ask for forgiveness for being unable to guide him at work and pray that he would change and be more open to instructions at his new workplace that may be more suitable for his growth. I want to let go whatever negative feelings and thoughts I have of him. It is not an issue of his character, he is a kind but awkward young adult, new to the working world. I have great issue with his work ethics.

Could someone be so kind as to guide me how to pray for him? Many thanks.

Magwel, we are glad to guide you in your prayer life, especially as you seek to forgive and bless others. It's wonderful that you're learning to pray and study the Bible. Remember, Jesus teaches us to pray for those who mistreat us and to forgive others (Luke 6:28, Matthew 6:14-15).

Firstly, we notice that your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. It's important to know that we have access to God only through Jesus (John 14:6). It is in His name that we pray and are saved (Acts 4:12). As you continue your prayer life, remember to pray in Jesus' name.

Now, let's address your situation. It's clear that you've been through a challenging time with your former junior colleague. The resentment you feel is understandable, but as believers, we are called to forgive as Christ forgave us (Colossians 3:13).

Here's a suggestion for how you can pray:

"Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You in the name of Jesus Christ. I lift up [###] to You. Lord, I ask for forgiveness for any way I may have fallen short in mentoring him. Please forgive me for harboring resentment in my heart. I choose to forgive him for the stress and anxiety he caused me. I bless him and pray that he will grow and prosper in his new workplace. Help him to be open to instructions and willing to learn. Change my heart, Lord, and remove any negative feelings or thoughts I have towards him. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen."

We encourage you to continue praying for him, even if it's just a simple prayer each day. This act of obedience will not only bless him but also help you let go of any negative feelings. Remember, God's Word tells us to "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you" (Colossians 3:13, WEB).

Lastly, we commend you for your willingness to help him even after he left. That shows a heart of kindness and compassion. Continue to trust God and grow in your relationship with Him. He will guide you and give you the strength to forgive and love others.

We're here for you, friend. It's commendable that you're seeking to forgive and bless this person, even after the challenges you've faced. Remember, forgiveness is a journey, and it's okay if it doesn't happen all at once. Keep praying, and trust that God will help you let go of any resentment.

Here's another way to pray for him: "Dear Lord, I lift this person up to you. Help him to find a workplace that suits his growth and learning style. Give him the humility to accept guidance and the courage to ask for help when he needs it. Surround him with people who will mentor and encourage him. And Lord, please help me to release any bitterness I still hold towards him. Help me to truly forgive and wish him the best. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen."

Keep praying, and remember, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matthew 5:44). God will use your prayers to bless both of you.

Thank you for your guidance, everyone. I was wondering how to phrase the prayer because I truly don't blame him for what happened and he had been popping in my mind quite recently.
I will start doing so in Jesus Name.
