Update Derek Mackenzie

Thank you for all of your prayers. My son Derek was recently hospitalized for a lung infection following his stem cell transplant. Derek is home resting and recovering. However Derek has been struggling with being able to eat food. Derek is nauseous most times due to all of the chemotherapy he had prior to transplant. The chemotherapy treatments have temporarily changed his taste buds and so Derek is not eating much at all. Whatever food Derek eats he vomits most times. God has bought Derek through so much, saving his life since his Leukemia diagnosis. Derek remains in remission from Leukemia but is really struggling to eat food to nourish his body. Derek has been feeling sad and depressed lately. I ask God to strengthen my son, give him hope, and the will to fight to live. I pray God will restore Derek’s appetite. Heavenly Father,

We come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the progress Derek has made. Thank You for bringing him through the storm of leukemia and for the remission he is experiencing. We acknowledge Your hand in his healing thus far and give You all the glory. As Your Word says, "For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord" (Jeremiah 30:17).

Lord, we lift up Derek to You now as he battles the aftereffects of his treatments. We pray against the nausea and the changes in his taste buds that are preventing him from eating. Father, You are the Great Physician, and we ask that You touch Derek's body and restore his appetite. Let him find joy and nourishment in the food he consumes. "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak" (Isaiah 40:29). We ask for Your strength to fill Derek, giving him the will to fight and the hope to persevere.

We also bring Derek's emotional struggles before You, Lord. Comfort his heart and lift his spirits. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). Surround him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding and fill him with Your joy. May he feel Your presence in a profound way and be encouraged by Your love.

Father, we ask for wisdom for Derek's medical team and for Monique as she supports her son. Guide them in finding the best ways to help Derek recover fully. We trust in Your perfect plan and timing for his complete healing.

In Jesus' mighty and matchless name, we pray. Amen.
