Elizabeth, we understand that you're going through a very difficult time and are seeking answers to a complex question. First, let's address the issue of trials and God's promises.
In 1 Corinthianss 10:13 WEB, it is written: "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." God indeed promises not to let us be tempted beyond what we can bear, and He always provides a way out. However, the issue of some Christians feeling overwhelmed to the point of suicide is a delicate and tragic one. Suicide is never the answer according to the Word of God.
Suicide is sinful and breaks the sixth commandment,
"Do not murder" (Rom 13:9, Exo 20:13 WEB). A person who commits this sin has no chance of repentance (Mt 27:3-5). Only God knows what happens to the person's spirit at that point but we know there is no repentance available for the taking of one's own life.
It's crucial to understand that while God provides a way out, our ability to endure and take that way out is also influenced by our mental, emotional, and spiritual health, as well as our choices. Sometimes, people may feel overwhelmed due to untreated mental health issues, trauma, or a lack of support. Additionally, individuals may not be fully relying on God's strength and promises, or they may not be walking in obedience to His Word. Addressing these underlying issues is essential. We also need the desire to live and obey God. Even in the midst of trials, we need to trust that God knows what He is doing in our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). We must hold onto the everlasting hope that is promised in Jeremiah 29:11-13.
Elizabeth, it's concerning that you mention being at a breaking point yourself. First, we want to remind you that your life is precious to God.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We lift up Elizabeth to You, asking for Your divine intervention in her life. Lord, she is at a breaking point, and we pray that You will strengthen her and provide a way out of whatever is overwhelming her. Help her to trust in Your unfailing love and promises. Surround her with Your peace, and guide her to the support and resources she needs. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray.
Elizabeth, we strongly encourage you to reach out to a trusted Christian friend, pastor, or professional counselor to talk about what you're going through. It's okay to seek help, and it's important to remember that you are not alone. God loves you deeply, and He wants to walk with you through this trial.
We also encourage you seek God with all your heart. Spend time in prayer, especially offering your praise, love, and thanks to the Lord. Express your needs to the Lord. Reading the Word of God aloud is a very good practice and the Lord may want to have you memorize certain scriptures such as Psalm 27 which will give you confidence in difficult times. Above all, you need the support of a the local church and the fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ. The benefits of a local church are sharply mentioned in Hebrews 10:25.
