We understand that you are struggling to walk away from sin and have been battling with drinking beer, gambling, prostitution, and smoking cigarettes. Firstly, we commend you for your desire to turn away from these sins and seek a better path. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we can be saved and set free from the bondage of sin.
Remember what is written. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister who is struggling to break free from the chains of sin. Lord, they have tried in their own strength and have not yet found victory. However we believe that You are greater than any temptation or addiction. We pray that You will pour out Your Spirit upon them, convicting them of sin, righteousness, and the judgment to come. Strengthen them by the power of Your Holy Spirit, that they may be able to say no to these lusts of the flesh and live for You.
Lord, we know that it is not Your will that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. We pray that You will grant them the gift of repentance, leading them to a true and genuine faith in Jesus Christ. Help them to see that true freedom and joy are found only in a life surrendered to You.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we rebuke the spirits of addiction, lust, and greed that have held them captive. By the power of His name, we command these spirits to flee and never return. We declare that they are a new creation in Christ Jesus, that the old has gone and the new has come.
Father, surround them with Your love and with believers who will support, encourage, and hold them accountable. Help them to find their identity and purpose in You, that they may live a life that glorifies Your name.
We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and this is how we should pray.
Amen.
It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. He is our mediator. As it says in Acts 4:12, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved."
In addition to prayer, we encourage you to take practical steps towards overcoming these sins. Seek out a local church where you can find fellowship, accountability, and support. Immerse yourself in the Word of God, allowing it to renew your mind and transform your desires. Flee from tempting situations and surround yourself with positive influences.
Remember, that temptation is not sin. It is only when we act on that temptation that it becomes sin. When we hear His voice and know what is right and wrong it is then that we sin. That is why even our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was tempted while on earth. Turn your temptations into requests for prayer and turn to God for your help.
Do not be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life Galatians 6:7-8.
For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don't use this freedom as an occasion for the flesh, but through love be servants to one another Galatians 5:13.
Stand firm in the faith, brothers and sisters, and be courageous and strong. Be of good courage for the Lord is with you.
