THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY!
…He sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it.’†Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?†They replied, “The Lord needs it.â€
They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!†“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!†Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!†“I tell you,†he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.†Luke 19:28-40
As you and your family go to church on Palm Sunday, may I ask you to imagine you were one of the disciples or one of the crowd that had been following Jesus, listening to His teachings. Just imagine all that you have seen Jesus teach and do during these past weeks and months. Maybe you were the crippled woman who was healed after 18 years by Jesus. Maybe you were the centurion who had his servant healed by Jesus just speaking the words that his servant was healed without going and seeing him. Were you one of the crowd where you saw Jesus feed 5000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish and with 12 basketfuls of food afterwards? Did you follow Jesus after your miracle? Are you praising the Lord today with others? Will you praise the Lord forever?
Jesus entered Jerusalem on a colt, showing humility. Jesus was declaring that He was Israel’s King and Messiah. Jesus’ kingdom was not of this world, but was spiritual. This was such an important day for Jesus in bringing fulfillment to prophecies told in Zechariah:
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9
Are you preparing your heart, your family's hearts and your home for this Holy Week? I pray that you will read the dramatic events of the Lord's week, including the crucifixion, followed by His resurrection three days later, in the Gospels. There are many Christian movies on television starting this weekend that your family can enjoy.
What are your plans for this Holy Week with your children? If your beloved husband or wife are gone, you are the spiritual leader for your family for this season. This week you can do different things to emphasize Easter according to your children’s ages. This weekend you may want to invite some of your family or friends to watch the movie The Passion Of Christ, showing others how Jesus Christ your Lord had to suffer and die on the cross for all sinners.
A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!†“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!†“Hosanna in the highest!†When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?†The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.†Matthew 21:8-11
The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple area, “Hosanna to the Son of David,†they were indignant. “Do you hear what these children are saying?†they asked him. “Yes,†replied Jesus, “have you never read, “‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’?†Matthew 21:14-16
At this moment your spouse, other loved ones and friends you know are denying Jesus Christ and are living in sin. The great news is they can be reconciled through Jesus Christ who shed His precious Blood on the cross. Will you pray for them throughout this week that this Easter they will accept the Lord? The Heavenly Father showed His amazing love He has for all sinners to send His only Son down to earth to die for all the ungodly.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Romans 5:6-10
If you have not surrendered your heart and life to the Lord, this is the perfect weekend to do so! Thousands of hearts and lives will be transformed around the world starting this weekend. Will you join us to start praying and thanking the Lord for His resurrection power in transforming men, women and children around the world to become new creatures in Christ? The Lord has heard your prayers and knows the desires of your heart for your beloved husband or wife. May you and I pray for a great spiritual breakthrough around the world in husbands’ and wives’ hearts and in their marriages.
What have your traditions been with your family for Easter in years past? You may want to make some new traditions that are even more special for you as you have grown spiritually this past year. I hope you have started to invite your family, friends and co-workers to all your different church services this coming week. You may be surprised - they just might attend if you ask them! Pray that the Lord has put someone in your spouse’s or child’s pathway who will ask them to attend church with them or the Holy Spirit will speak to your beloved one to go to church on Easter morning.
Jesus Christ was worshiped and loved by many people on that special Palm Sunday, but Jesus was betrayed, rejected and denied by the crowds, including His disciples, in just a few days. May you remember that your Lord knows the pain you are going through in your marriage right now. May you keep yourselves accountable by your behavior and the words you speak so that you are known as a Christian, not denying the Lord as you pray for others to come to know Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives on Resurrection Sunday.
Have a blessed day,
