The Strong Arm Of God

My dear sisters in the Lord,
I believe it would be fair to say that each of us is able to look back on our lives and recall specific situations when God upheld us and sustained us. Women of faith have been blessed with the assurance of possessing . . .

The Strong Arm Of God

This week I feel compelled to share with my sisters the foundation of my unwavering faith, regardless of my external circumstances. Before I begin, please be assured that I have experienced as much loss, pain and suffering as anyone else. Most gratefully, and entirely by God’s grace and mercy, I have never been defeated. Why? When fear comes knocking on my heart’s door, the Lord whispers ever so softly, “Do not fear for I am with you.“ Isaiah 41:10 reminds me of God’s promise: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.†Together let us praise and glorify our mighty God.
Another encouraging promise from Psalm 89:21, provides me great comfort: “My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him.†God’s arm is never too short to save me from every harmful situation, as revealed in Numbers 11:23, “The LORD answered Moses, ‘Is the LORD’S arm too short?’ You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you.†By God’s amazing grace and blessed assurance, His strong arm is never too short for His children. Isaiah 51:9 provides further encouragement, “Awake, awake! Clothe yourself with strength, O arm of the LORD; awake as in days gone by, as in generations of old.â€
Whenever I am going through a trial, I yearn for that strong arm of our mighty God to reach down from heaven. Could it be that God desires each of His daughters to know that His hand, connected to His strong arm, is capable of holding us securely? Could it be that God is saying to each of us, “just trust Me?†Without question, I truly believe He does. When I reflect upon the Lord and how He saved me, restored me, healed my body, heart and spirit countless times, and built a fortress of protection around me, what cause do I have to fear?
In prayers of thanksgiving, I give God all the praise and glory for His mighty works of healing upon my body and spirit, by His strong arm. God has also protected our family with His strong arm on numerous occasions, and brought us through each crisis with His tender love, grace and mercy. Indeed, we are very grateful! Psalm 34:19 comforts us with the knowledge that, “A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.â€
Some of our sisters are presently going through trials and trusting in God to work a miracle. As women of faith, we have learned through the power of the Holy Spirit, “we live by faith, not by sight†(2 Corinthians 5:7). The promises in God’s Word are written to assure us that He will help us and hold us up with His righteous right hand.
The words declared in Isaiah 41:10, were spoken by God Almighty through the prophet Isaiah, to comfort and assure His people at that time in history. God does the same for His children today! Basically we have two options: We can either live a life filled with doubt and fear; or we live out our life believing in the very foundation and promises of God. My prayer is that each of my sisters chooses the later.
I often reflect on my life in prayers of thanksgiving, during the times that God brought me out of the miry pit by His strong right arm. In each situation I called out to God in fervent prayer when I was in need. Each time, the Lord has faithfully brought comfort and peace to my spirit. Yes, indeed, our mighty God considers every word we speak as we call upon His name in prayer. Psalm 91:1 assures us that “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.â€
During these times of reflection, when I praise and glorify God, I am in awe of the One who has rescued members of our family with His strong arm, when doctors proclaimed “there is no hope for survival.†These secular physicians are not aware of the greater power in the hope of our Great Physician, who is able to heal bodies and souls, whereas practicing physicians are limited to medical technology.
In my walk with the Lord, I have learned to trust Him with every trial and hardship, regardless whether my prayers are answered. Sometimes we must go through the fire, but we can always trust Him even when the flames are the hottest. Our faith is tested during those times, but God is always faithful to answer our prayers according to His divine will and perfect timing. We need to stay on course and keep trusting Him. Then time passes and with our transformed heart, God’s glorious plan is revealed.
Every mountain we go over, we increasingly learn the depths of our mighty God and how faithful He is to His children. We do not need to fear because the strong arm of God never lets go of us. Sometimes life can take us over some jagged rocks at the bottom of the valley, but our Lord is holding our hand to guide us to a safe pasture.
It is God’s will for us to not live a life filled with fear, doubt, suffering or defeat. Stand strong and trust in Him that He is the God of the Universe, sovereign and in control of all things. When the enemy comes our way and attempts to put fear in our spirit, put on the Armour of God, stand strong and say: “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and strong mind†(2 Timothy 1:7). My dear sisters, hold on to God’s promises and His Truths, and walk in victory with Him!
Resting in the shadow of His wings,
Your sister Eileen
