THE SHEPARDS WENT TO
SEEK THE LORD
"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." Luke 19:10b
Have you been able to attend a church musical this year? This year I gave one of my Christmas gifts early to my three children and their families as we all attended the well-known Ft. Lauderdale Christmas Pageant. They have a large volunteer cast doing drama with many choirs of all ages. The Christmas pageant is a very large theatrical production, which started 30 years ago and has been on TBN several times. I had many memories as Bob and I had our own children in the pageant many years ago. Now they are taking their own children to see a two and half hour pageant with Christmas carols, many songs with many different scene sets, drama, and then after the intermission they present the Christmas story which included real camels and flying angels coming from the balcony. It was breath-taking and touches your heart with so many emotions. They presented the Gospel at the end and the pastor lead the congregation with a prayer of salvation for everyone to join in and pray. I was praising the Lord for how many hearts and lives were being touched and changed that evening.
This past weekend my own church in Ft. Lauderdale put on four identical Christmas musicals called, Peace On Earth. I went to two performances and it was excellent. Our pastor shared that this season is a difficult time for many who are going through difficult circumstances or they may be depressed due to relationship problems, their finances, or grief. Pastor Tom quickly told us that Jesus Christ was sent by God to be Immanuel, born by a virgin to be our Redeemer, our Savior, the King of Israel, our Wonderful Counselor and Friend and so many other powerful names. Jesus came to speak love and peace on earth to all men if they will accept the free gift that God has offered to each of us. Jesus Christ, His only Son came down to pay the price by shedding His blood at Calvary for all our sins for each of us to have eternal life with God. We each have a choice to accept this free gift by having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of your life.
I thought of how many around the world are praying for their spouses, children and loved ones to have their hearts and lives transformed by the Lord Jesus. I pray that many blinded and deceived spouses went to musicals or church services this past week and the Lord had your spouse have their own personal Damascus Road experience in a Christmas church service. We will be praising the Lord when we hear all the stories.
My prayer for you is to still go to a Christmas musical or a pageant or a live-nativity scene in your own city or town. This past weekend, due to bad weather in many northern states, you may not have been able to attend the scheduled Christmas musical event, but pray they will have it this week. Please help your children to understand the true meaning of Christmas and bless them this year with doing something special that they can remember in the future. Now start thinking of what you can do to celebrate the Lord's Birthday for your family. (Most church's Christmas events are free.)
When Jesus was born, an angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds. Let that be such an encouragement to you as a stander that the shepherds were not seeking the Lord when the angel came to them. Your prodigal need not be seeking the Lord for the Holy Spirit to suddenly move upon them. Never doubt that the Lord is speaking to them in so many different ways each day and week trying to get their attention as only the Lord can do so perfectly.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Luke 2:8-12
The Lord is telling you today to not be afraid of the circumstances that you are in right now. The shepherds were doing their job watching over their sheep. Then suddenly an angel appeared giving them a very important message. Has the Holy Spirit revealed a very important message to you? Do you remember what that small voice said? What scripture seemed to leap off the page? Do you have a desire to be obedient to the Lord's will in your life right now? Do not worry about your circumstances right now, the Lord will change them at His perfecting timing. You just need to be faithful, keeping your eyes and heart on the Lord.
The shepherds dropped everything to seek the Lord. Are you willing to follow Jesus regardless of what He wants you to do? May you earnestly pray that you will be willing to have the heart's desire to always follow the instructions of the Lord and pick up your cross and follow Him on the narrow path of obedience.
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger." Luke 2:15-16
After the Shepherds saw Jesus, they told everyone. Christmas is your greatest opportunity to invite family, friends and co-workers to church services. Pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to your prodigal husband or wife and all prodigal spouses who are rebellious, disobedient or may have a spirit of pride or battling an addiction to follow Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in their lives. Let's pray that they will leave their sinful lifestyles and follow the bright, shining star which leads them to the Lord Jesus Christ, who is waiting with His arms opened wide to love them and set them free. When they turn to the Lord, they will open their eyes to God’s truths and the Holy Spirit will touch their heart to God’s will and way regarding all things, including their marriage. After loved ones are touched and changed, they will start to tell everyone of what the Lord has done in their lives.
When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. Luke 2:17
Hearts and lives are changed by people praying for others. Will you please continue to fast and pray fervently for all wayward spouses, prodigal children and lost loved ones to be obedient to the Lord this Christmas?
Have a blessed day,
