What breaks down the barriers between cultures and nations and races? The presence of God's Holy Spirit within us. We sense a commonality, we feel a shared bond, and we celebrate the unity of the Spirit that exists because each of us has God's presence — the Holy Spirit — within us! There's an old saying, "Blood is thicker than water." It was used to emphasize why families stick together, feel connected, and defend each other. I like to amend it in the following way: Blood may be thicker than water, but the Spirit ties us together by both blood and water!
O Father, I pray for the Holy Spirit to move among your people in a mighty way to break down barriers that divide us. Please give us a sense of our common bond through your Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
