(I Samuel 9:15-16) “Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed this to Samuel: “About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over My people Israel; he will deliver them from the hand of the Philistines. I have looked on My people, for their cry has reached Me.â€
In I Samuel 8 the Israelites asked Samuel for a king and this in itself is not what displeased the Lord it was the attitude in asking. They had had up and down faith. They did not conquer all of their enemies and the gods of the land infiltrated the Israelite community and they intermarried as well. So they began worshiping the gods of the land. This is the reason why we are to come out from them and be separate. (II Corinthians 6:17) “Therefore, "Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." We stay separate from the ways of the world in order to keep ourselves holy and pure and not giving into sin because sin will always bring you down. (Romans 6:23) “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.†Staying separate and living a holy life will help you to NOT give the devil any ammunition to use against you. One party with drinking and all that goes along with that will lead to one more and one more and one more and before long you are back in the life of sin you left and that is what happened to the Israelites. Their continual up and down faith would lead them into bondage from people of the land and they would cry out to God which is what all of the Book of Judges is about. Samuel continued as judge all the days of his life but in his old years and given that his two sons were not following after the Lord the people wanted a king. God was their king but they were not devoted to Him and it was in this attitude of not staying sincere in their faith and looking again for someone to rule instead of God and that is what displeased God. Are you constantly looking in other areas to give you peace to your restlessness, your uneasy feelings within or are you looking to God? He says, (John 14:27) “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.†Do you look to God for your peace or do you look to drugs or a bottle? Do you look to God or when restlessness sets in you run to the mall to go shopping again and spend money you do not have, or to the gambling casino or maybe it is work. You run back to work to escape being at home? God gives eternal peace the only peace the world can give is temporary and when it wears off your problem is still there. God gives you peace with direction and healing, deliverance and restoration. Isn’t His a lot better?
It was always in God’s plan for them to have a king but not in the way that they wanted one; (Genesis 49:10) “The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.†God gave in and selected Saul, son of Kish from the tribe of Benjamin. Saul’s father sent him out to look for some of their donkeys that had wandered away. They had lost them and needed to get them back. Saul had to set out to find them not knowing that it was a preordained path that God would lead him on to his destiny; the first king of Israel. Have you ever lost something or someone and felt heartbroken and overwhelmed? You heart is heavy at the loss and need healing and to be restored. The deeper things in life such as the loss of a loved one due to death or a broken relationship, the loss of a job or the loss of your health all require a process or a path to take in order to receive your healing or restoration.
Saul had to set out; he had to walk the path to find the donkeys and that path led to his destiny. He did not set out on the path expecting to find out that he would be chosen to be king but that is what happened. The path of the loss may be where you discover your passion. Do not despise the journey. Use it as a learning experience. The Lord may have already revealed to you through passions and desires within your heart the purpose He has for you but you still have to walk out the path to get there. Your destiny will not take you where your character will not keep you. The path the Lord leads you on is one that will not only heal, deliver and restore but it will build your character. If the Lord has a ministry for you teaching on His unconditional love but you have a lot of anger within due to being hurt over and over again, you will not be able to teach what you do not possess. (Colossians 3:8-14) “But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.â€
The Lord will take you on a journey to heal your heart and help you to get rid of the anger, fear, insecurity, shame etc. that you may have within; trust Him and allow Him to lead. (Proverbs 20:24) “A man’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own way?†If you trust Him while on the journey and embrace it with a teachable spirit then you will learn the lessons much faster and healing will come much quicker along with your destiny! (II Corinthians 2:14) “But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ's triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of Him everywhere.†You might find through the journey and when you begin to walk in your destiny that it will be much more than you ever expected and souls saved in the process through the testimony you will have obtained!
(Ephesians 3:20-21) “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.â€
