More Appropriate Translation
And we know that to *them that love God all things work together for good, `even' to them that are called according to `his' purpose.

I included this ASV translation because those who are fluent in multiple languages know that modifiers and subject matters tends to be inverted during translation. The sentence order of the American Standard Version matches the order of the original Greek text. Although both translations are essentially correct, the ASV best matches the main subject group: 'them that loved God' as written in the Greek text. Loving God is my emphasis in this blog.
COMMENT
All things, that includes sorrows, trials, persecutions, and pain for Christ, work together for blessing. This promise is not to all mankind or even those professing to be godly, but it is restricted to a specific class of people. To them that love God.

Grace be with all those who have true love for our Lord Jesus Christ.

Grace comes to those who Love our Lord Jesus.
Consequently, the blessing in our highlighted verse, come to those who Love God and is obedient to His Word. Obedience is not merely agreeing but aligning your actions to the will of God.
Those people are God's people. They will go through hardship (persecution in Christ) but it will all work itself out for the good.
As Christians we will go through some tribulations but keep the faith and stay strong in our Saviour Jesus, for great are our rewards!
