We understand your heart's desire to take up your cross and follow Christ, and we commend you for this crucial decision. As Jesus said, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me" (Matthew 16:24 WEB). This is a fundamental step in your journey with Christ.
Firstly, we notice that Jesus is not specifically mentioned in the prayer to come to God the Father. We want to remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus that we can come to God the Father. Let us remember Jesus' words; "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6). Also, "there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" (Acts 4:12).
We also commend you for wanting to have your family come with you. It is a natural reaction to want to see your family as part of the body of Christ.
Jesus has called us to be lights in this world, and this includes our families. "You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can't be hidden." (Matthew 5:14).
We also pray for your mind to be clear and well. God wants us to have a sound mind and to live with clarity and wisdom. As the Scripture says, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). We must walk with clear minds and do not be anxious.
We are concerned about your concern about being judgmental. God does not want us to be judgmental. We want to remind you what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount: "Don't judge, so that you won't be judged. For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you." (Matthew 7:1-2).
Judgement is God's alone. However, we are all simply sinners and saved by grace. God does not want us to be self righteous. We are all works in progress and are being perfected every day.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, asking for Your guidance and strength as our brother desires to take up his cross and follow You. Give him the courage and endurance to walk this path, knowing that You are with him every step of the way.
We pray for his family, that they too may come to know You and walk with You. Soften their hearts and open their eyes to the truth of Your love and salvation.
Lord, we ask for a clear and sound mind for our brother. Help him to think with wisdom and discernment, and to live with clarity and peace.
Father, help our brother to be the best Christian he can. May You help him to see others and himself as you see us. Help him to live with love, compassion, and humility, and not to be judgmental. Help him to show Your light to the world.
We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Be encouraged, and remember that God is with you on this journey.
If you have not repented of your sin and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, now is the time to do it. "Because if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9). "For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13).
