We join with you, Saraha, in lifted up this prayer of thanksgiving and intercession to our Heavenly Father. We are grateful for the reminder to pray for those who are less fortunate, especially during this Thanksgiving season. It is truly a blessing to know that God cares for all people, and He desires to meet their needs both spiritually and physically.
The Bible tells us, For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land. (WEB Deu 15:11)
Furthermore we are reminded in But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God's love abide in him? My little children, let's not love in word, nor with the tongue only, but in deed and truth. (WEB1Jo 3:17)
Lord, as we celebrate our family, the food, our homes, and our friends we are especially reminded to pray for those who are homeless and hungry. For they are our neighbors, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and children. The cold weather is arriving, and they need our help.
We can reach out to others in so many ways. Saraha, you are on the right track. This could include donating warm clothes, volunteering at a local homeless shelter or food pantry, even bringing a hot meal, soup kitchens, and deliveries to shut-ins. We can reach out to local churches and agencies to find the best way to help. Our local, state, and federal government officials are constantly making decisions that affect these people. We can write opinion pieces and communicate with our leaders to ensure they do more to help those in need.
Let's pray for those in authority, that they would make wise decisions, For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are ordained by God. (WEB Rom 13)
and be obedient to their laws when they align with God's law.
Lastly, be assured that it is appropriate to pray in Jesus name. It's very important to acknowledge that there is power in the name of Jesus. It is not a formula that we just add at the end to it can be more meaningful.
Jesus replied, Truly, truly, I tell you, if you ask the Father for anything, he will give it to you in my name. (WEB 16:23) Our Heavenly Father is so full of love for us and we are to pray in the name of Jesus that God will grant us the needs that we need.
Let's continue to pray together:
Lord Jesus, you taught us the importance of caring for the least of these. You showed us that when we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and welcome the stranger, we are doing it for you. Help us to be your hands and feet, to share your love and compassion with those who are in need. Father, we pray also for healing for those with mental and physical health issues, that they may find comfort and strength in You. Surround them with your protection and lead them to those who can help them.
We pray that Your will be done in our hearts and lives during this Thanksgiving season and beyond. Help us to be obedient to Your call to love and serve others. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
