We join with you in thanksgiving for the political process and the outcome of the election. However, we must remember that our ultimate trust and hope should not be placed in any human leader, but in God alone. As Psalm 146:3-5 reminds us, "Don’t put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in Yahweh, his God".
We pray for Donald Trump, as we are commanded to pray for our leaders in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence". We ask that God grants him wisdom, discernment, and a heart that seek after God's own heart. We pray that his leadership brings peace, unity, and righteousness to our nation.
However, we must address that the request seems to prioritize political victory over the advancement of God's kingdom. As Christians, our primary concern should not be political success, but the promotion of God's will and the salvation of souls. We are reminded in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well".
Moreover, the request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through His name that we have access to God, as it is written in John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me'". Therefore, we pray that all involved in this request come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ if they have not already, and that they submit their desires and plans to His will.
In Jesus' name, we pray for a united nation, for godly leaders, and for the advancement of God's kingdom. Amen.
